Anshula Kapoor’s Mehendi Look Is A Love Letter To Gujarat

Her teal-blue Arpita Mehta lehenga, inspired by Patola, pays homage to the textile heritage of Gujarat.

We’re knee-deep into Anshula Kapoor’s wedding festivities, and it’s raining beautiful outfits. The Kapoor clan seems to be working overtime to deliver one great look after the other. The bride in particular, is putting her best fashion foot forward, while embracing lots of colour and paying homage to Indian heritage. From her colourful lehenga with a Phulkari dupatta from Itrh, to her Punjab-inspired pastel salwar suit from Punit Balana, Anshula’s pre-wedding festivities offer lots of fashion inspiration for brides who want to keep it super traditional and vibrant. One such look that referenced Indian craft was her mehendi look.

The vibrant, teal-coloured lehenga from designer Arpita Mehta was a lesson in deep hues. The outfit featured shell embroidery and the brand’s signature, mirror-work. What’s interesting is that the outfit was inspired by Patola, one of the most defining crafts from Gujarat. Anshula’s choice of referencing Gujarat’s textile heritage was a way to honour her fiancé Rohan Thakkar’s Gujarati roots. One more noteworthy aspect about the look is that it is Arpita Mehta’s very first Patola-inspired bridal outfit.

Fun embroidery, beautiful drape

The lehenga looks exquisite, despite having minimal surface ornamentation. It had a wide, embroidered border, which looked opulent yet very light-weight. The dupatta also had an embroidered border, which was finished with a string of shells on the hem, just like the blouse. She wore the dupatta on one shoulder, draping it from the back, to wrap its corner around the other hand.

Anshula added a touch of colour to the look with her jewellery—a pop of blue with her layered necklace from Amrapali Jewels, and red and green with her cocktail rings. She kept the make-up minimal, with dewy skin, nude glossy lips, shimmery eyeshadow, and lots of mascara. She wore her hair in soft, middle-parted waves, adorned with strings of flowers, which added a splash of purple to the look.
