From Strangers to Family: Why Golden Dragon Is Perfect for the First Wedding Meetup

A new culinary destination is redefining Chinese dining in the Capital by celebrating the vibrant spice of Sichuan and the delicate finesse of Cantonese cuisine.

A legendary name in Chinese dining has arrived in the Capital. Golden Dragon, one of IHCL's most iconic restaurant brands, makes its North India debut at the newly refreshed Taj Surajkund Resort & Spa, Delhi NCR, bringing with it over five decades of culinary heritage. Since opening its doors at The Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai in 1973, the restaurant has earned a loyal following for its authentic interpretations of Sichuan and Cantonese cuisine, celebrated through handcrafted dim sum, wok-fired delicacies, delicate broths and regional classics. The experience extends beyond the plate, with interiors inspired by classical Oriental design, while its tranquil setting overlooking the Aravallis creates a refined yet relaxed atmosphere for an indulgent meal.

Decor and ambience

A new and thoughtful facelift has been given to Taj Surajkund Resort & Spa and the iconic Golden Dragon’s entry at the hotel has added to its timeless charm. The softly illuminated corridor overlooking the courtyard sets the perfect tone for an elegant dining experience. Inside, classical Oriental influences blend seamlessly with modern sophistication through shades of subtle gold and green, textured walls, delicate plum blossom motifs and a striking gold leaf ceiling that lends a sense of grandeur.

Art makes its presence felt well from Guohua, the traditional Chinese art form that combines painting, poetry, calligraphy and seal engraving. Artworks such as Shanshui Along the River, The Lantern Bearer's Mountain Journey and Path to Longevity add cultural storytelling to the interiors. Two elegantly designed six-seater private dining rooms offer an intimate setting for milestone celebrations, the first meeting between the bride and groom's families, making the gathering feel warm and memorable.

In the dim sum selection, a must try is the Prawn Har Gao

Food & Drinks

The menu at Golden Dragon Delhi pays a tribute to the regional diversity of Chinese cuisine and is curated by Executive Chef Anuj Mathur in collaboration with Hong Kong's Chef Tong Sing Wah. It honours the restaurant's classics but also introduces contemporary touches to keep the experience relevant for today's diner.

Begin with the Imperial Crabmeat Soup, a delicate, velvety broth that makes for a comforting start. The dim sum selection is equally rewarding from translucent Prawn Har Gao to flavourful lamb, chilli and coriander gyoza and the delicately spiced Water-Poached Chicken Dumpling with Garlic Sauce. Also unmissable is the classic Flaky Radish Dumpling.

Among the small plates, the crunchy Water Chestnut with Roasted Macadamia Chilli Sauce offers contrasting textures, while the Stir-Fried Mushroom Pepper Salt combines enoki, shiitake and button mushrooms in an earthy, umami-rich medley. The Song of the Dragon Chicken is addictive as the Sichuan heat with dried chillies creates the flavour bomb, while the Golden Fried Prawns present an irresistibly crisp exterior with succulent sweetness.

For mains, order the tender Wok-Fried Sliced Lamb with Ginger, Onion and Soya. It’s a deeply savoury dish, while the Kung Pao Chicken embraces authentic Sichuan spice rather than excessive sweetness. The numbing warmth of Mala Tofu, smoky Dry Cooked Green Beans, perfectly steamed Sea Bass with Ginger, and the signature Famous Three Flavour Noodles round off the savoury offerings beautifully. End on a comforting note with the silky Mango Pudding or the crisp, honey-drizzled Darsaan—an apt finale to a meal that embodies both heritage and refinement.

Dessert here makes for a fitting finale to the meal

Pair these dishes with some of the classic cocktails that draw inspiration from bold Asian flavours with a contemporary twist. Oriental Kick layers gin with Sichuan pepper, hibiscus, honey, while the Jasmine Tea & Apple Martini is light, floral and refreshingly crisp. End the meal with Sesame Pearl Dessert Martini, finished with a sesame rim and a decadent chocolate cigar.

Whether you prefer delicate tofu dishes or succulent prawns, bold Sichuan heat or subtle Cantonese flavours, Golden Dragon caters to every palate. And as your meal draws to a close with a comforting cup of warm jasmine tea, you'll find that it's not just the food that lingers, but the experience itself, as Golden Dragon promises a dining journey that is as memorable as it is satisfying.
