The pre-wedding mehendi session is like one big jam—always packed with fun, chatter and the bride and her girls exploring beautiful designs. That just got a whole lot cooler of late with them opting for more than just paisleys and whirls, and taking to more personalised motifs, patterns and photos, all holding a special significance in the bride's life. Call it a chance for individual expression or even a trend boosted by social media, but the fun is on point here and its getting the palms to be a visual canvas that narrates a life story, over just an abstract artwork.
Recent case in point, is of the 'ChatGPT bride' who's gone viral. Mumbai-based content strategist Anusha Jain rewrote the henna design playbook, when she got ChatGPT to whip up the best personalised mehendi design suggestion she could imagine!
Jain began by sharing everything about her and her partner’s favourite memories, places, fun moments, family times and more with the AI Chatbot and in no time, it conjured up a cool mehendi design out of her story, creating a viral moment.
In her Instagram post, she explained what she did: "I did not want a conventional mehendi design. I wanted it to feel personal. I wanted it to tell our story.
But how do you explain a thousand little memories to a mehendi artist? Our cities, our families, our inside jokes, our wedding venue, and all the tiny details that only made sense to us. It felt impossible to bring everything together in one design.
Then my brother jokingly said, “Why don’t you try ChatGPT?” I laughed. And then I actually did. I started telling ChatGPT everything. Where we were from, the moments we wanted to include, the ideas in my head, and every random detail I could think of. I kept blabbering, and ChatGPT somehow turned it all into one beautiful mehendi concept. The final design had everything that made it ours. Mumbai and Jaipur elements, a family crossword, a map of our wedding venue, and tiny personalised details that only we understood," she says.
It sure was as personalised as it gets with a lil tech flavour throw in! While this is a first, brides have been tweaking their creativity of late and trying to include all the little milestones, maps and mayhem that have been an intrinsic part of their lives so far! This trend is also hot on the bridal charts now!

On the trend of mehendi being more experimental today, mehendi artist from Mumbai, Jyoti Chheda shares a view. Having started exploring personalised mehendi years ago, she adds, "At the time, bridal mehendi was mostly focused on traditional flowers and patterns. While beautiful, it all felt very similar. I wanted a bride’s mehendi to reflect her unique personality and relationship. I began speaking with brides about their journeys and translating their meaningful memories into custom design elements. In short, personalised mehendi is your unique story, beautifully designed in henna. And it’s so popular of late.”
Think of all the things that make you smile—from your favourite flowers to your go-to-food, the lipstick that takes you into the day and night and yes, even a pet, and get them into your design! In fact, furry companions are actually a cute motif and every bit in demand with mehendi artistes. Chheda affirms: “Yes, brides love including their pets, as they are a central part of the family. They also frequently include their proposals, first dates, favourite travel memories, wedding venues, hobbies, professions, and shared interests such as music or films. Every detail helps make the design truly personal. One of the layouts that is hot is when mehendi tells an entire relationship story chronologically.”
She adds: “One of the most emotional requests I receive is incorporating a portrait of a late family member, which is a beautiful way to honour them on the wedding day.”
