It’s celebration time for film director Imtiaz Ali and his family as wedding bells ring for his daughter—filmmaker and writer, Ida Ali, who is officially engaged to her longtime boyfriend Krish Agrawal. Ida took to Instagram to share the big moment with stunning photos and videos from the romantic proposal in Norway.
The post revealed how the proposal happened on July 1 at 11 pm in Ytresand. Sharing the video, Ida kept the caption simple: “01/07/26 11 pm Ytresand.”
The video opens with stunning views of a quiet beach surrounded by mountains before showing Ida proudly flashing her diamond ring. She can be seen smiling, covering her mouth in disbelief, and soaking in the moment before posing for a happy selfie with Krish.
She later shared more photos from the proposal, giving fans a closer look at the special moment. One picture shows Krish down on one knee as he popped the question, while an emotional Ida couldn’t stop smiling after saying yes.
The announcement was soon flooded with love from friends and celebrities. Sharvari, Vedang Raina, Khushi Kapoor, Ahsaas Channa, Sanjana Sanghi, Aaliyah Kashyap, Orry, Alizeh Agnihotri and Manjari Fadnis were among those who congratulated the couple.
Imtiaz Ali did not post a public message for the couple, but he did react in a way that caught everyone’s attention; he shared a media report about Ida’s engagement on his Instagram Stories, but corrected one small detail. The report mentioned Ida was 26, to which he replied, “25-year-old, please.”
Ida has followed in her father’s footsteps and has been building her own career as a filmmaker. She has directed projects like Maya, Lift and Thai Massage. She also studied filmmaking at California’s Chapman University, Dodge College of Film and Media Arts.
Back in 2024, Imtiaz spoke about working with his daughter and called her a “fine filmmaker.” In an interview with ETimes, he said:
“Ida and I have been collaborating since the time she was born, that’s because she has been addicted to stories and has forced me to tell her one story every night when I used to put her to sleep. So, we have a relationship of stories, and at some point, she began telling me stories. Every story I’ve made, especially from Tamasha and even before that, she would be listening to them while in the house, and then more actively giving ideas, reactions, and feedback.”
In a 2022 interview with SCREEN, Ida had also opened up about growing up around films and the pressure that comes with being Imtiaz Ali’s daughter. She said:
“Firstly, the biggest contribution from my family in terms of filmmaking is not just that I have a father who is a filmmaker, but I was surrounded by sets all the time. I used to go on location and hang out in the production room and the office. Dinner table conversations were about films. We used to discuss tiny details of films as well. The perception is that because I am Imtiaz Ali’s daughter, I have some kind of credibility. I don’t think that would be the case for creative professionals because they see quality. I feel like I have to do my best to prove myself now. Some people will be like I am here just because of him, and that I don’t have that much substance. So I have to constantly prove that I have substance. Of course, there is baggage and a lot of pressure. But then, how can this job not have pressure?”
Krish has mostly stayed away from the public eye, although he has often appeared in Ida’s social media posts over the years. The couple has not shared any details about their wedding yet, but for now, they’re clearly enjoying this new chapter together.
