It was a matrimonial service in Delhi that would play catalyst in weaving the lives of Samridhi Shoor and Udit Mehrotra—residents of Seattle and New Jersey—together. He liked her profile, reached out and the rest, as they say, is history.
Having both been married before, they chatted for hours about everything from families to their careers, dreams and values, and met at a neutral city—Minneapolis for their first date. It spelt a weekend neither will never forget as she recalls: “We wandered through a local farmers' market, talked for hours, somehow ended up at a neighborhood playground, swinging as high as we could and reaching for the clouds. It wasn't something I had ever imagined doing on a date, especially with someone I had only recently met. Yet with Udit, it felt completely natural. We found ourselves having some of the most difficult conversations about our past, our future, our fears, and what we wanted from life, with remarkable ease. We embraced each other wholeheartedly, with all our strengths, flaws, and perfectly imperfect stories.”
He popped the question on a 10-day trip in Iceland in March, secretly planning it for months with his childhood best friend and wife, ensuring every detail was perfect. It was at Diamond Beach, after a long glacier hike. She shares: “Surrounded by black sand, glistening icebergs, and one of the most surreal landscapes we had ever seen, he got down on one knee and asked me to spend forever with him. It was intimate, emotional, and completely unexpected.
As if that wasn't magical enough, later that night we were treated to one of the most spectacular displays of the Northern Lights. It felt as though Iceland itself was celebrating with us, making one of the most unforgettable days of our lives even more magical.”
She takes us into it, from her first appearance as a radiant bride to the fun with guests as they went olive picking and a whole lot of fun in the sun.
A destination wedding felt like the perfect way to bring our families together. With Udit's family and many of our loved ones in India, and our lives in the United States, Italy became the ideal meeting point. It made it easier for everyone to travel and gave our loved ones the opportunity to turn our wedding into a shared holiday rather than just a celebration. When we found our venue in Tuscany, it instantly gave us the feeling we had always imagined for a wedding at home. Surrounded by rolling vineyards, open countryside, and our closest family and friends, it felt intimate, welcoming, and deeply personal. It had all the warmth of a home wedding, set against the timeless beauty and romance of Tuscany.
As food lovers, we also loved the idea of treating our guests to authentic Tuscan cuisine and local wines, making the destination itself part of the celebration.
Our wedding unfolded over three days, beginning with an intimate vineyard dinner, followed by Welcome Mingles, Mehendi, and a lively Sangeet. The final day began with a joyful Haldi, leading into a sunset wedding ceremony in the vineyards, followed by dinner and an unforgettable after-party under the Tuscan sky.
We wanted the décor to be minimalistic and timeless, something that enhanced Tuscany's natural beauty rather than competing with it. Instead of going overboard, we focused on creating an atmosphere that felt elegant, warm, and inviting. Barbara Beccarelli from Nero Fiore truly brought that vision to life. She helped us create décor that was simple, refined, and beautifully interactive, allowing our guests to experience the venue rather than feel overshadowed by elaborate installations.
Looking back, we're so glad we embraced the philosophy of "less is more." It allowed the beauty of the vineyards, the golden Tuscan light, and the joy of our family and friends to take centre stage.
The year leading up to our wedding was incredibly difficult for our family as my mother was diagnosed with and treated for cancer. Through everything, she always dreamed of seeing me as a bride in red. Anyone who knows me knows that my wardrobe is usually filled with whites, blues, blush pinks, and other soft pastels, so choosing a bright crimson lehenga was completely outside my comfort zone. But wearing red for her made it feel more meaningful than any colour I could have chosen.
I wanted the outfit to feel joyful rather than heavy, so I chose a lightweight raw silk lehenga with delicate floral embroidery in vibrant bouquet-like hues. The long flowing organza and net dupatta added a sense of softness and movement, creating a striking contrast against the Tuscan countryside while still feeling effortless as I walked down the aisle.
My lehenga was handcrafted by local artisans in Delhi. I had originally seen a similar design at one of the larger bridal boutiques, but having it made locally made it feel even more personal. Looking back, it was everything I had hoped for, elegant, comfortable, deeply meaningful, and a beautiful tribute to my mother.
Absolutely, but in a subtle way. We wanted everything to feel light, effortless, and comfortable, perfectly suited to the Tuscan sunshine and countryside. Rather than creating looks that literally screamed "Italy," we drew quiet inspiration from our surroundings. Throughout our outfits, stationery, and details, we incorporated understated motifs like olive branches, swans, and delicate florals that nodded to the landscape without feeling overly themed.
Our goal was for Tuscany to remain the backdrop, not the centerpiece. We wanted our fashion and design choices to complement the natural beauty around us rather than compete with it.
Absolutely. One of the most meaningful pieces was Udit's kalgi, which was designed by my father. Inspired by the regal aesthetics of Indian royalty, it was handcrafted with sapphires and emeralds, making it a beautiful way to weave my family's craftsmanship into our wedding.
My kaleeras were equally personal. Rather than choosing a traditional design, I wanted them to tell our story. They featured tiny motifs that represented our journey together, an airplane for the countless miles we traveled to be together, Seattle's Space Needle where Udit was living when we met, the New York skyline representing the city where we built our life together, an evil eye for protection, and doves symbolising a love that continues to soar.
Looking back, those little details made our wedding feel uniquely ours. They weren't just accessories, they carried the people, places, and memories that shaped our journey together.
More than anything, it felt like life had come full circle. We had both experienced enough to know that love, second chances, and a day like this could never be taken for granted. Standing there together in the Tuscan hills, surrounded by the people we love most, it was hard to comprehend that this was our wedding. It felt beyond anything we had imagined for ourselves, and for a few moments, we simply stood there smiling, trying to take it all in.
More than anything, it was gratitude. Looking around and seeing our families and closest friends, many of whom had travelled across the world to celebrate with us in a little corner of Tuscany, was incredibly special. It was one of those rare moments where you become fully aware of just how loved and supported you are.
The ceremony itself was also unexpectedly light-hearted. Our Pandit ji had everyone smiling and laughing throughout the pheras, making the entire experience feel relaxed and full of warmth. It was a beautiful reminder that such a meaningful moment doesn’t always have to be solemn. For us, it was filled with laughter, love, and the people who mattered most.
I wanted our celebrations to feel like us. We focused on the rituals that resonated with us and celebrated love, equality, and the coming together of two families, while keeping everything else simple, relaxed, and true to who we are.
One moment that will stay with me forever was walking down the aisle. As I made my way towards Udit, my parents' voices played in the background. They had secretly recorded a message reflecting on some of my favorite childhood memories and sharing their hopes as they entrusted me to this new chapter of my life with Udit. It was incredibly touching. I expected to be overwhelmed with emotion, but what surprised me most was the sense of calm I felt. There was no nervousness—just certainty, peace, and an overwhelming feeling of love for the person waiting for me at the end of the aisle. Looking back, it felt as though life had come full circle, and in that moment, everything simply felt right.
The evening after our ceremony was the most magical. We had worked closely with the band, Trio Toscana, to curate a playlist of some of our favorite songs, and they brought every single one to life so beautifully. As the sun set over the Tuscan hills and a gentle breeze rolled in, it felt like everything had fallen perfectly into place. Our friends and family were on the dance floor, singing along, dancing, and simply soaking in the moment while enjoying great cocktails, delicious Indian food, and incredible live music.
It was exactly the atmosphere we had dreamed of creating, relaxed, joyful, and filled with the people who matter most.
Food was one of the most important parts of our wedding as it's at the heart of every celebration in both our families. We worked closely with our venue to curate a menu that celebrated authentic Tuscan flavors while offering plenty of vegetarian options, reflecting our families' preferences. We also chose local wines that paired beautifully with each course, allowing our guests to experience the region through its food and wine.
For us, the menu wasn't just about what was served on the table, it was another way of sharing the warmth and hospitality that meant so much to us!
Without a doubt, Palagina's wines stole the show. They were so exceptional that a few of our lifelong teetotallers were tempted to make an exception, and they're still talking about them! It became one of those fun little stories from the weekend that everyone remembers.
We didn’t have a reception; we had an after-party which was very informal with loads of dancing!
We wanted everyone to enjoy Tuscany beyond the wedding celebrations. Guests could go olive picking, enjoy wine tastings, or simply spend time with the estate's friendly farm animals, which was a surprisingly big hit with both kids and adults! It gave everyone the chance to slow down and soak in the beauty of Tuscany.
The biggest compliment we kept hearing was that the wedding felt incredibly warm and personal. So many guests told us it didn't feel like a typical destination wedding—it felt like a holiday where everyone genuinely got to spend time together. Because we had intentionally kept the guest list intimate, people weren't just attending events; they were creating memories with one another.
Yes, it sure was. I had earlier just imagined getting married at home, surrounded by loved ones and looking back, the wedding gave us exactly that feeling. Tuscany somehow recreated everything I had hoped a home wedding would be warmth, togetherness, and the joy of having everyone we love in one place. Watching our families, who had traveled from different parts of the world, come together so effortlessly, share long meals, laugh over glasses of wine, and celebrate alongside one another, was incredibly special. Of course, the vineyards, the golden Tuscan sunset, and the breathtaking scenery all made it feel magical.
By the end of the weekend, it no longer felt like two families coming together, it felt like one big family. Those moments in between the celebrations are the memories we'll cherish just as much as the wedding itself.
