Fashion had some major moments in 2024–both good and bad. 2024 saw Alessandro Michele’s debut show at Valentino, John Galliano bidding adieu to Maison Margiela, Mathieu Blazy moving to Chanel, Dior appointing Sonam Kapoor Ahuja as their brand ambassador, Dries Van Noten retiring, Disney announcing a sequel of The Devil Wears Prada, and much more.
We also saw brides upping their fashion game this year. There were all kinds of impeccably dressed brides this year—brides who went for unconventional colours for their wedding outfit, brides who paid homage to their roots, maximalist brides, minimalistic brides, brides who were slightly more risqué, brides who looked stylish while playing too safe and so on. One common thing? They all made us want to get married. Here’s looking back at the best-dressed brides of 2024.

Aditi Rao Hydari looked every bit stunning as a bride in her custom Sabyasachi handwoven tissue lehenga paired with a Benarasi tissue dupatta. She accessorised it with elegant jewellery including a minimalistic necklace, earrings, a bulaki (traditional septum ring), gold bangles, and anklets. She also wore mogra gajra in her braid and ditched the traditional mehendi for alta. She paid homage to her roots while setting micro-trends, and looked like every minimalistic bride's dream.

It would be remiss not to mention the bride from what was the wedding of the year. For the D-Day, Radhika Merchant wore an ivory and red lehenga by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla. This was their take on ‘Panetar’, the traditional Gujarati bridal attire in red and white. Her intricate lehenga had a long veil and a detachable train. It was paired with an additional fully embroidered dupatta in red. She added a pop of green to the look with emerald jewellery. She kept her makeup simple and added a red lip. Styled by Rhea Kapoor, this look was one for the books.

Millie Bobby Brown wore four stunning dresses across her wedding festivities. For the main ceremony, she wore a custom Galia Lahav lace gown with a basque waist, fishtail skirt, a long veil, a train, and a beautiful corset that fit her like a glove. The fit of the corset and the delicate, intricate lacework made the dress very romantic. She paired the dress with a pair of dainty stud earrings and wore her hair in a loose updo.

For her wedding with Naga Chaitanya, Sobhita also chose to pay homage to her South Indian roots in a beautiful gold Kanjeevaram sari by Gaurang Shah. She wore another red and ivory sari which looked great, but this one might have an extra edge. She paired it with traditional South Indian jewellery by Kishandas & Co., which included amathapatti, multiple necklaces, chaand suraj hair ornaments, abulaki(traditional septum ring), a kamarband, baju bandh…the works! The look was classic and timeless, and makes us want to be a South Indian bride!

For her wedding with Chuck Bass aka Ed Westwick (Gossip Girlfans, represent!), Amy Jackson opted for a custom Alberta Ferretti gown with a strapless structured bodice, cinched waist and a voluminous skirt. She wore her hair in a clean updo and had minimal makeup on. With the elegant silhouette of the gown, her long veil with lace border and her sophisticated hair and makeup, Amy looked dreamy.

Speaking of Gossip Girl, Jessica Szohr also got married this year. For her wedding with Bradley Richardson, she wore a Galia Lahav gown that was both elegant and powerful. Her sleek column gown had shoulder pads, a long train and a high-neck bolero. It also had a risqué neckline that went down to her belly button. Jessica also added a personal touch to the look. Her custom veil had a quote from her late grandfather: ‘Take Time to Smell the Roses’ spelt out on it. We might cry!

Aaliyah had some great looks during her wedding festivities, the most noteworthy one being the Tarun Tahiliani lehenga that she wore on her wedding day. It was an intricate pastel lehenga with 3D floral embroidery and a scallop border. She wore her hair in loose curls and had minimalistic makeup on. The bloom galore and soft hues of her outfit looked fresh, and spring brides can add this look to their mood board.
