The Neerja actress attended the Ganesh Darshan hosted by Nita Ambani at Antilia, their Mumbai residence, recently. She wore a red lehenga set by designers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla.

The look was complemented by the accessories, namely the earrings from Amrapali Jewels, the custom Aprajata Toor sandals and the Aurus haathphool.

While the actress, styled by Rhea Kapoor, looked stunning, we couldn’t help but obsess over the crushed silk ghaghra skirt from the ensemble.

The crushed silk ghaghra is a major throwback by the designers to when it all started for the two, all the way back in 1987. Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla established themselves as a label to look out for with their pioneering work with crushed silk in their early collections. This revival of their debut collection is not only proof of their timelessness in the Indian fashion landscape but also that crushed silk is here to stay.

The technique has been popular in South Asian regions for hundreds of years, with some similarities observed with the shibori dying technique of Japan that results in a crushed effect.

Crushed silk looks have been popular for festive and wedding wear in the country for ages. However, Sonam’s recent look has given the cue to style enthusiasts to include it in their wardrobes for the upcoming season in new and inventive ways. Crushed silk lehengas and kurta sets can be a great idea for sangeet outfits as the pleated silk fabric elevates the outfit without weighing it down, making it perfect for dancing or moving around freely.

So if you’re inspired by Sonam to give crushed silk a go, here are a few of our favourite looks by designers that you can add to your cart now…

For Manifest to become one of Cambridge Dictionary's most viewed words of 2024 — 1,30,000 hits and counting — it means some of us must have Googled it at least once. I know, I hit that search button over and over again
because each time I looked at it, I saw a new meaning.

Putting together a homegrown title at a time when the demise of print has been long announced may seem surprising...
...but it has long been a dream of mine to give India a magazine it deserves. A magazine that is the country.

And nothing, absolutely nothing, represents India more than our weddings. It is a time when families are brought together. Traditions come alive as they are adapted to each couple's beliefs. And lives are joined in a way that the romantic in me still enjoys.

    THE NEW BRIDE.
