A bespoke jewellery label that offers modern yet traditional pieces for your wear on your special day or during your pre-wedding celebrations.

What makes an ensemble come together? Well, accessories have something to do with the art of tying things together. But Isvari, one of India’s oldest, legacy jewellery brands, adds more than just an air of sophistication and polished elegance to outfits. The label came into nascent existence during post-partition India so you can imagine the decades of taste, eloquence and masterful craftsmanship Isvari has built. Instead of procuring relevant elements to design the jewellery, the brand’s pieces arecentredaround its precious jewels. In fact, each piece is designed with a story in mind.
Isvari showcased at the Hyundai India Couture Week as well as theFDCI Manifest Wedding Weekend. And we’ve also had a chance to speak to Mr. Manik Jain, owner of Isvari about upcoming jewellery trends and how tradition can be beautifully combined with modern aesthetics. Read on…
Manifest:Isvari’s Jewellery has a beautiful, almost vintage aesthetic, was that intentional? If so, what were the initial thoughts while designing Isvari’s pieces?
Mr. Manik Jain:Traditional Indian culture is an integral part of our family’s heritage and we have been in the business of crafting jewellery for generations. So the legacy of up to four generations of our family has been instilled within Ishwari. It's traditional but with a modern outlook.
Manifest: What would you say makes Isvari’s jewellery special, what is its USP?
Mr. Manik Jain:Everything is designed, and everything is produced under our careful observation. We don't outsource our jewellery at all. We have our own set of designers who work with us, we have special artisans who manufacture for us and then everything is inspected incredibly well within the Isvari team and only then does the final product come to life for the customer. So, it's very personalised, it's very curated, and we design with gemstones as a focus area. It's like our baby, we nourish it, and we explore the designs with an extremely creative eye!
Manifest: Your brand seems to strike a lovely balance between minimalism and tradition with its jewellery, how did you come to decide this combination?
Mr. Manik Jain:We have been working on the concept for the past 4-5 years, because as a traditional jeweller creating a brand like Isvari has been a dream. We want our customers to feel special and premium. We love our customers and they love us, they love our jewellery. We have been working with a few families for the past 60-70 years, some of the families’ fourth generation is working with our family’s fourth generation. We offer a premium version of jewellery, we do fine jewellery, we do some exotic gemstones, and exotic sizes of diamonds as well. The whole idea behind Isvari is to provide our customers with luxury with a minimal and modern twist. Some people want to play with jewellery, they want to stack four bracelets on their wrists, or they want to wear 3-4 chains together. After the pandemic, I think people feel a sense of gratitude towards their life
they want to express themselves, they want to enjoy wearing jewellery. And minimalistic jewellery plays an essential role in the enjoyment of the mundane.
Manifest: It’s rare to come across the shade of blue diamonds Isvari features in their jewellery, it seems you’ve tapped into some unique elements to design your pieces, can you expand on this a little?
Mr. Manik Jain:Everybody across the world loves the usual gemstones, the reds, the greens, We have seen some fabulous greens in the past 2-3 years. Nowadays many people are gravitating towards emeralds. But blue is such a stunning colour. It matches perfectly with a baby pink or a white or a black. And, top of the line designers of our country are eyeing blue as well.
Manifest: Who is Isvari for? Who is Isvari’s consumer and muse?
Mr. Manik Jain:The modern-day bride. Because at Isvari, we value our culture and traditions, but we also like to explore them and experiment with our designs. We have an in-house designing team, an in-house advisory team for new brides. I aim for our brides to wear only the best. So, yes I think it's the modern-day bride.
Manifest: Can you tell us a little about the brand’s history as well?
Mr. Manik Jain:I belong to the 14th generation of my family business. And we have about 400 years of history in this business. We belong to a place called Gujranwala in Pakistan. So, after the partition, my great-grandfather Kasturi Lal Jain started this journey from scratch. We are the oldest jewellery business in Jalandhar, and my grandfather joined him later, helped him out of the struggle, and took the business to great heights. Then in 1987, my father, Mr. Rajesh Jain, shifted to Delhi. He started with a small venture in Delhi and in 2002 I joined him. For the past 20-25 years we’ve been working towards elevating the brand and now we’re here with the current product, with a global aesthetic and standard, it's tasteful and blissful.
Manifest: We see that most of your pieces are designed to be traditional, rich yet also lightweight. Is there a particular reason you’ve decided to design Isvari jewellery in such a way?
Mr. Manik Jain:Yes, the basic concept behind this is that until and unless you have a clean design, the gemstones and jewels in the pieces won’t truly shine through. At Iswari we like to maintain a clean and lightweight look.
Manifest: Your last gold collection was a temple jewellery collection. Is that indicative of the brand aiming to preserve Indian culture via your designs?
Mr. Manik Jain:We can't forget our roots at all. Indian culture is always, and will be always a part of our legacy. Some modern-day brides or some families still want the bride to wear a traditional outfit, with very traditional jewellery and we completely respect that. We plan on designing more traditional jewellery in the future.
Manifest: Gold jewellery has been a long-standing favourite among Indians, do you think that’s still the case?
Mr. Manik Jain:Yes every trousseau includes gold, you can't leave gold out of the equation.
Today weddings and receptions or other wedding events have been very modernised but you still need one good gold piece of jewellery; A gold necklace, a gold bangle or some other traditional gold piece. Diamonds and gemstones can sparkle. But gold is the only metal that glitters.
Manifest: What are some jewellery trends that you foresee becoming popular in the upcoming wedding season?
Mr. Manik Jain:Yes. We’ve been seeing Polki making a repeated appearance for the past 4-5 years. This year Polki jewellery along with not emeralds but rubies can be a game changer for a bride. I watched Abu Jani and Sandeep's show at the ICW and I saw lots of reds!
Manifest: Diamonds are generally crowd pleasers, are there any specific diamond pieces by Isvari that you’d like to point people towards?
Mr. Manik Jain:Yes, definitely, we have created a line with solitaire necklaces, solitaire bangles and solitaire bracelets. We love big rocks. As do most modern Indian brides. I think it is the one thing that modern Indian brides and grooms love. They love wearing shiny rocks!
Manifest: Your exhibit at the FDCI Manifest Wedding Weekend gave us a stunning collection you’d been in possession of for some time, how did you build on this concept, tell us more.
Manik Jain:For the FDCI Manifest Wedding Weekend unveiled some rare, archival pieces which have been under our watch, under our possession for a very long period of time. These pieces had been preserved for years. They’re pieces that took a lot of time, a lot of patience and a lot of skill to manufacture. And to add a cherry on top, we also launched something which every bride would love to have possession of. We designed a range of clutches and handbags encrusted with gemstones. The project was very close to my heart, I worked very passionately and very hard toward it!
