péro x Hello Kitty Is What All Our Kawaiicore Dreams Are Made Of!

péro just kickstarted the FDCI x Lakme Fashion Week with the cutest collection ever

Oct 14, 2024
  • As if péro wasn’t cute enough already, this season they decided to collaborate with Hello Kitty for a collection that’s cute as a button—or many, many buttons! As péro celebrates its 15th birthday and Hello Kitty its 50th, they come together for ‘Hello péro’, a collection that gave us inspiration, nostalgia, and a whole lot of cute.

With the looks filled with Hello Kitty motifs—cherries, strawberries, apples, milk cartons and cupcakes in vibrant colours inspired by Japanese Harajuku street style, the collection was all about the Kawaiicore aesthetic and we are here for it!

Everything about the collection, including the colors, prints and embroideries, sparked a sense of joy, and reminded us of the good old days. The colour palette included Hello Kitty’s signature colours—pinks, reds, blues, and sunshine yellow. We saw colorful prints as well, including florals, nautical stripes and checks. Surface ornamentation included beadwork, fabric origami, tassels, appliques, patchwork, and their signature hand crochet.

We loved the co-ord sets printed with huge Hello Kitty motifs, cute quilted dresses, jackets with quilted motifs (like cherries, flowers, hearts), patchwork jackets and bralettes and printed tiered skirts, among many, many other things.

Menswear looks were really cute as well. With co-ord sets with huge, colourful Hello Kitty motifs all over them, shirts with the Hello Kitty face on them, and baseball caps with cherry, bow and cupcake appliqués, Péro makes it clear that they have absolutely no time for toxic masculinity this season.

The looks were also very well styled, with lots of different interesting elements peppered across the looks, including baseball caps with Hello Kitty appliqués, crocs with Hello Kitty appliqués, Hello Kitty inspired motifs painted on the model’s bodies, lace socks with bows on them, striped stockings, printed scarves tied around glasses, bags with Hello Kitty charms, ponytails tied with what looked like an apple shaped fabric toy instead of a regular scrunchie. Some models were also holding apple-shaped fabric toys. If, (like us) you are a sucker for interesting details, this show will make you feel like a kid in a candy store.

For Manifest to become one of Cambridge Dictionary's most viewed words of 2024 — 1,30,000 hits and counting — it means some of us must have Googled it at least once. I know, I hit that search button over and over again
because each time I looked at it, I saw a new meaning.

Putting together a homegrown title at a time when the demise of print has been long announced may seem surprising...
...but it has long been a dream of mine to give India a magazine it deserves. A magazine that is the country.

And nothing, absolutely nothing, represents India more than our weddings. It is a time when families are brought together. Traditions come alive as they are adapted to each couple's beliefs. And lives are joined in a way that the romantic in me still enjoys.

The fact that it comes with band, baaja and baraat — what's not to love? And that is the reason our first issue celebrates:
    THE NEW BRIDE.
