With his Hyundai ICW collection, Tarun Tahiliani looks at the good old Indian bride from a contemporary lens...

With ‘Otherworldly’, Tarun Tahiliani aims to achieve both the opposite ends of a spectrum. He aims to create clothes that are beautiful, but also comfortable. Clothing that feels like second skin, despite being elaborate and visually stunning. Clothing that is both modern and timeless. Risqué yet safe, revealing yet never vulgar, playful yet serious.
The looks were traditional yet modern. The colour palette included ivory, pastels, black and lots of red. Bling and intricacy dominated the collection. Embroideries includedKashidakar, Mukaish, chikankari. While there were a lot of traditional lehengas, there were also some corset lehengas.

His signature pre-draped saris also made an appearance. Another trend spotted was embroidered lace and sheer fabrics. The outfits were complimented by jewellery from Hazoorilal by Sandeep Narang and Shree Jee Jaipur. Accessories included headgear, cute little bags and belts. Some models had their hair done in an old Hollywood manner.

All in all, the collection is straddling two very different worlds. This collection is going to be embraced by traditional and contemporary brides, as well as fashion-forward and fuss-free brides.
While the collection was truly 'otherworldly', an organisational hiccup led to the showcase making history. Limited seating at the venue meant chaos outside the show area. This led to the designer taking the unprecedented decision to repeat the show for the people who couldn't gain entry before. Now that's what makes a show one for the books!
