Abhinav Mishra’s Recent Showcase Offered Opulence With A Side Of Nomadic Charm

Abhinav Mishra’s collection ‘The Man in the Mirror’, shows that you don’t really need to constantly experiment as long as you have a strong DNA and you commit to it.

  • Abhinav Mishra just showcased his collection titled ‘The Man in the Mirror’, which was set against the backdrop of a desert-inspired setup. The decor, done by Rani Pink, had a beautiful, ethereal feel to it. The backdrop also had a bunch of musicians playing nagadas and tablas, which was later complemented by old Hindi music.

Lakshya Lalwani opened the show in a beautiful off-white attire. Interestingly, this show was his runway debut. The collection had a truly varied colour palette with many colours like ivory, gold, red, pink, orange, green, yellow and black. There was a segment in the show with a series of couple twinning looks. This segment had couples twinning in red, orange, green, yellow and pastels walking one after the other. Couple twinning is cool again, apparently, in case you were wondering. Abhinav Mishra’s signature mirror work was on full display. We saw a bunch of lehengas with plunging necklines, lehengas with kurtas, lehengas with long jackets. Our favourite though? The beautiful, embroidered kaftans with thigh-high slits were super elegant, but sexy at the same time.

The menswear looks were also stunning. We liked a series of black menswear looks. We also saw Gurfateh Pirzada walk the ramp in a beautiful black kurta embroidered in gold. It was paired with a pair of easy, loose black pants, something we saw in many looks in the collection. These pants were also paired with sherwanis in a lot of other looks. From a bunch of happy colours to models that look like they are real people and have a story to tell, the show had all the Abhinav Mishra signatures on show, the most obvious one being mirror-work. As Abhinav Mishra reflects on his perpetual love for mirror work (get it?!), we also saw an element that we haven’t seen him do before, which is the nomadic aesthetic. A lot of looks had a nomadic feel to them, and he did it quite well.

The show was closed by Sara Ali Khan as she walked in wearing an ivory lehenga with mirror-work. As much as we love it when designers experiment, Abhinav Mishra is a masterclass in the fact that a designer does not need to try something new each time they come up with a collection; they can just stick to their signatures and create something beautiful each time.

For Manifest to become one of Cambridge Dictionary's most viewed words of 2024 — 1,30,000 hits and counting — it means some of us must have Googled it at least once. I know, I hit that search button over and over again
because each time I looked at it, I saw a new meaning.

Putting together a homegrown title at a time when the demise of print has been long announced may seem surprising...
...but it has long been a dream of mine to give India a magazine it deserves. A magazine that is the country.

And nothing, absolutely nothing, represents India more than our weddings. It is a time when families are brought together. Traditions come alive as they are adapted to each couple's beliefs. And lives are joined in a way that the romantic in me still enjoys.
