With a history of mentorship with icons like Rohit Bal andTarun Tahiliani, it’s only understandable that designer Abhishek Sharma has focussed his eponymous label’s design philosophy around Indian textiles. His latest collection ‘Trin’, showcased at the recently heldFDCI X Lakmé Fashion Weekis no different.

A serendipitous road trip with a friend (where he wasn’t the one driving, he assures us), served as the inspiration for his latest collection. “I was just enjoying the ride when I noticed some haystacks on the fields and it just clicked,” says Abhishek Sharma. ‘Trin’, which translates to wild grass in Sanskrit, thus became a showcase that highlighted textiles and surface techniques inspired by the undulating grasslands and fields of the countryside.

Models walked down the runway, weaving in between performing artists donning animal masks created by Project Sneh, in striking gowns and layered ensembles. The designer’s affinity to explore surface ornamentation was also evident throughout, with couching as the hero technique. For those unversed, couching is. technique where yarns are laid across the surface of the base fabric and fastened in places with small stitches of the same or different yarn.

For the Spring/Summer 2025 season, the designer complemented the high-octane embellishments with fabrics like cool linens, luxurious silks, sheer net, cotton voile, rich velvets and chiffon.

Since a day out in the fields was what inspired the collection, the colour palette evoked the tranquil feeling of lying on the grass and looking up at the sky as it changes hues throughout the day. The colour palette transitions from bright and vivid hues to deeper shades like midnight blue and aubergine to mimic, as the designer puts it, the movement of dawn to dusk.

Supermodel Ujjawala Raut closed the show in a stunning beige gown, featuring the label’s signature intricate detailing, along with a thigh-high slit and a striking long tail.

If you’re someone who wants to stand out for all the right reasons, Abhishek Sharma’s ‘Trin’ might be tailor-made for you!

For Manifest to become one of Cambridge Dictionary's most viewed words of 2024 — 1,30,000 hits and counting — it means some of us must have Googled it at least once. I know, I hit that search button over and over again
because each time I looked at it, I saw a new meaning.

Putting together a homegrown title at a time when the demise of print has been long announced may seem surprising...
...but it has long been a dream of mine to give India a magazine it deserves. A magazine that is the country.
