Arpita Mehta's India Couture Week Debut Collection Is Made for the Modern Bride

Arpita Mehta unveiled her debut couture collection Ceremonial at Hyundai India Couture Week 2026 in association with FDCI. The presentation marked a significant milestone for the designer, celebrating the evolving language of Indian ceremonial dressing through a contemporary lens rooted in heritage textiles, craftsmanship and immersive storytelling.

Over the past decade, Mehta has built a distinctive design language defined by vibrant colour, intricate craftsmanship and modern femininity. With Ceremonial, she revisited some of India's most celebrated textile traditions—not as relics of the past, but as living crafts that continue to evolve. The collection reflected the idea that ceremonies today are increasingly personal, expressive and fluid, mirroring the women who celebrate them.

Drawing from India's rich textile legacy, the collection featured Bandhani, Banarasi and tissue while introducing Kantha into the Arpita Mehta couture vocabulary for the first time. Rather than reinventing these crafts, Mehta preserved their inherent character, reinterpreting them through the brand's contemporary aesthetic. Her signature mirror work appeared alongside vintage-inspired gemstone embroidery, creating richly layered surfaces that balanced heritage with modernity.

The runway featured sculpted lehengas, fluid saris, corseted blouses, contemporary drapes and occasion separates that reflected the changing rhythm of Indian celebrations. Designed for women who move effortlessly between maximalism and restraint, tradition and individuality, the silhouettes prioritised ease without compromising on craftsmanship. A palette of coconut, rose tan, sage, seafoam and teal gradually deepened into violet and sindoor red, while intricate embroidery and refined surface techniques lent each look a timeless yet contemporary appeal.

The storytelling extended beyond the garments. Creative show director Pranav Goswamy transformed the runway into an immersive setting inspired by the members-only lounges of the 1970s and 1980s. Drawing cues from the Arpita Mehta brand universe and retail spaces, the set moved away from the conventional runway format to create an intimate, lived-in environment. Indo-European furniture, layered textiles, brass accents, suede, velvet and fringe detailing came together to evoke a nostalgic atmosphere that felt both familiar and strikingly modern.
