Ratanshi Kheraj Sarees is a brand synonymous with impeccable craftsmanship, and is rooted in the philosophy of keeping the Indian artistry alive. With a history that spans generations, the brand derives inspiration from its weavers, many of whom have been with the brand for as long as 4 generations! Bhavesh Reshamwala, who now helms the brand, talks to Manifest about the brand’s inspiration, showcasing at the FDCI Manifest Wedding Weekend, and the beauty in the chaos of planning a wedding!

Manifest: What would a Ratanshi Kheraj bridal trousseau look like?

Bhavesh: If I have to make a bridal trousseau myself, I would prefer having different weaves, and different fibres. And as a brand, as a person, and as a responsible citizen, I would always prefer having traditional textiles with natural fibres. So, if I have to list them down, I would prefer a lovely Banarasi brocade for sure, nice hand-tied, naturally dyed, Bandhini. A lovely, fine zari kota with beautiful, intricate motifs. A nice floral, slightly bold, bright-coloured Paithani for sure. And maybe then just tweak them with nice dupattas and textiles that would pair up with other forms, in their natural fibres. So that is what I would prefer.

Manifest: What inspires the brand to create every day?

Bhavesh: Customers are one of our biggest inspirations. The newer generation of girls who walk in for their trousseau shopping or for their wedding shopping. It's quite good to know that they're well educated. They don't just need a piece of textile anymore. They want stories. They want art in their original form. So that is what inspires us to get them the best of the weaves. And on the other hand, it’s our weavers. We are blessed, they have been with us for generations. We have a set of weavers who have been with us for the last 3-4 generations. And they try to get in the best that's not available in the market and make the finest of the intricate weaves in their original and the best forms possible.

Manifest: What can we expect from your collection at the FDCI Manifest Wedding Weekend?

Bhavesh: At the FDCI Manifest Wedding Weekend, we would be getting our finest handloom sarees. We’ll be getting the Jamdanis, the Banarasi Khinkhwabs, the beautiful Janglas, lovely multi coloured Zari Kotas, and beautiful hand-tied Bandhanis with us.

Manifest: What is your favourite part about Indian weddings?

Bhavesh: My favourite part about Indian weddings is the celebration, and it's not just the celebration of the events that are lined up, but also the preparations, the hustle that goes on in getting the wedding in place, the events in place, from shopping for trousseaus to having your dance practises, to wardrobe malfunctions, to everything! These are stories in themselves. And when you finish the event, it’s like a great achievementlike the whole family has achieved something.

For Manifest to become one of Cambridge Dictionary's most viewed words of 2024 — 1,30,000 hits and counting — it means some of us must have Googled it at least once. I know, I hit that search button over and over again
because each time I looked at it, I saw a new meaning.

Putting together a homegrown title at a time when the demise of print has been long announced may seem surprising...
...but it has long been a dream of mine to give India a magazine it deserves. A magazine that is the country.

And nothing, absolutely nothing, represents India more than our weddings. It is a time when families are brought together. Traditions come alive as they are adapted to each couple's beliefs. And lives are joined in a way that the romantic in me still enjoys.

The fact that it comes with band, baaja and baraat — what's not to love? And that is the reason our first issue celebrates:
    THE NEW BRIDE.
