At the heart of Vidhi Singhania, lies a vehement appreciation of India’s textile heritage. With an intent of staying true to our heritage that goes hand in hand with a constant need to evolve, Vidhi Singhania is all about balancing timelessness with relevance. In a world where brides are moving past just pretty outfits and gravitating towards textiles that have a story to tell—while still having a contemporary feel to their look—Vidhi Singhania truly understands the assignment.

Manifest: What inspires you to create?

Vidhi Singhania: I am deeply inspired by India’s textile heritage—the stories and the craftsmanship. Nature, architecture, and the quiet beauty of everyday moments also influence my work. But above all, it is the desire to preserve and reinterpret tradition for the modern woman that continues to inspire me.

M: What is it about handwoven textiles that you are the most drawn to?

VS: Handwoven textiles carry a soul that machine-made fabrics simply cannot replicate. Each piece reflects time, patience, and the individuality of the artisan. There are certain irregularities, and a sense of quiet imperfection, that makes every weave unique—and that, to me, is where its true beauty lies.

M: The younger generation of brides seems to be gravitating towards rich Indian handloom textiles. Do you think this shift is here to stay?

VS: Yes, I believe it is a very meaningful shift. Today’s bride is more aware, more conscious, and deeply connected to her roots. She values authenticity and wants pieces that carry emotional and cultural significance. Handloom offers exactly that—something timeless, personal, and enduring. I do feel this appreciation will only continue to grow.

M: How can one identify an authentic Banarasi sari?

VS: An authentic Banarasi sari is characterised by its intricate weaving, detailed motifs, and the richness of its zari.

M: What is the correct way to store a Banarasi sari to ensure it lasts for years?

VS: Banarasi saris should ideally be stored in a muslin cloth to allow the fabric to breathe. It is important to refold the sari every few months to prevent permanent creasing/breaking of the zari, and to keep it away from direct sunlight. With a little care, these saris can truly last for generations.

M: Kota saris are one of the mainstays for the brand. Tell us a little about the fabric.

VS: Kota is a beautifully lightweight and breathable fabric, known for its distinctive checkered weave, often referred to as khat. It is incredibly versatile—perfect for warm climates, and when woven in gold thread, luxurious and elegant for festive and occasion wear. What makes Kota special is its ability to feel almost weightless while still carrying the richness of handloom.

M: How do you balance staying true to our heritage while constantly evolving?

VS: For me, the craft remains constant—it is the foundation. What evolves are the silhouettes, the styling, and the way the textiles are presented. By respecting the integrity of the weave while adapting it to contemporary lifestyles, we are able to create pieces that feel both timeless and relevant. It is about honouring where we come from while embracing where we are going.
