Dear men, we need to talk. The engagement ring that you get your significant other is probably the most special gift that you will ever get her. And while there is a good chance that she will love the engagement ring that you get her, it is one piece of jewellery that she’ll be wearing for the rest of her life, so as the years go by, she might not mind an upgrade.

While swapping the center stone or changing the band are interesting ways to upgrade your engagement ring, they might not sit right with someone who does not want to make changes to their ring for the sentimental value that it holds. Enter: ring stacks. Adding more rings or bands to your engagement ring is one of the coolest ways to upgrade it. It’s interesting, chic, and most importantly, a non-permanent way to revamp your wedding ring.

If you are a guy reading this, let us walk you through it. There is a new trend that has emerged in the world of wedding rings; it’s where you gift her a new band to be paired with her engagement ring for every milestone moment in your relationship. It could be milestone anniversaries like 5-year anniversary or 10-year anniversary, birth of a child, or even a career achievement. It’s a beautiful way to honour your bond by having her wear the story of the relationship on her ring finger.

If the idea of her wearing a stack where each band symbolises a special moment sounds interesting to you, here is how to do it.

If you’re a guy who has yet to pop the question and want to get onto the milestone stack bandwidth, there are a few things you’ll have to keep in mind. For starters, you’ll have to be mindful of the engagement ring that you pick. Certain rings are hard to be paired with other bands, and choosing a ring like that will not allow stacking. For example, adding another band to a signet-style engagement ring will leave awkward gaps, so it’s not ideal for stacking. Low setting rings and Toi et Moi rings are other kinds of rings that do not allow more bands to sit closely with them, making them unsuitable for stacking.

Every time you are picking a new band to be added to the stack, it’s important to make sure that it compliments the other bands on the stack. Keeping the colour scheme uniform is non-negotiable. If the engagement ring has a tanzanite or a blue sapphire, the other bands should only have complimentary colours like other shades of blue, purple, and other cool colours. Additionally, if the engagement ring has a gold finish, you can avoid silver for the other bands, for a cohesive look—unless you’re intentionally going for a fun mixed-metal look.

For Manifest to become one of Cambridge Dictionary's most viewed words of 2024 — 1,30,000 hits and counting — it means some of us must have Googled it at least once. I know, I hit that search button over and over again
because each time I looked at it, I saw a new meaning.
