Kunal Rawal's designs blend tradition and modernity, creating a new standard for menswear in India Kunal Rawal

With a love for clean lines and experimental silhouettes, Kunal Rawal is not just a fashion designer but a revolution in himself with an ambition to take menswear to new heights. Established in 2006, the Kunal Rawal label has consistently grown into a fashion-forward brand, characterised by its unique style and artistry. What was initially a response to the lack of excitement in the menswear industry, the brand has now evolved to blend textile technology, traditional craftsmanship and design sensibilities.

Kunal Rawal's designs are a testament to redefining the standards for menswear in the fashion industry, as more and more of his custom-tailored pieces have been worn by names like Ranbir Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal and Allu Arjun. His pieces do not just make a fashion statement but also allow his clients to express themselves and reflect who the person wearing those designs is.

While making a mark on the global platform, Kunal Rawal's designs are deeply rooted in Indian traditions, and that is what sets them apart. With a philosophy that believes in customisation and a designer who is obsessed with symmetry and harmony amongst his designs, the Kunal Rawal Label turns shopping experiences into unmissable experiences.

In this exclusive conversation with Manifest, Kunal Rawal shares his favourite moments from when he dressed a groom and what can be expected from them at the FDCI Manifest Wedding Weekend.

Manifest: What inspires you to create every day?

Kunal Rawal: Honestly? Anything and everything. A song in the shower, an Art Deco building I walk past, a movie playing in the background. Most ideas hit me at my green marble desk — It's like a grail of creativity; every time I sit there, the dates align and ideas flow. And of course, travel – whether it’s Benaras, Goa, or London – each place leaves its mark in the most unexpected ways.

M: What’s your favourite part about Indian weddings?

KR: I’m a total sucker for Indian weddings — the music, the energy, the way families create these larger-than-life moments and experiences to witness. It’s like watching a full feature film unfold. The madness, the rituals, and those little stolen moments — it’s all a vibe, and I’m always here for the good energy in the air.

M: Tell us about your favourite moment dressing a Groom.

KR: Every groom comes with his own story, and that’s where the magic begins — that’s where the inspiration and the crafting take shape. My favourite moment is seeing them happy on their special day, looking confident and truly owning the moment. It’s something we never take lightly — it’s deeply personal, both for me and for the brand.

M: What fashion trends do you think we’ll see this wedding season?

KR: This season, menswear is breaking boundaries. We’re experimenting with silhouettes in a big way and bringing in bold textures and rich colour stories — from deepwines and earthy olives to smoky charcoals, soft oysters, and darker, moodier blacks. Formerly, it’s about finding that sweet spot between function and luxury. You’ll see wrinkle-over-sheen fabrics that feel elevated without being too flashy, reversible festive wear that gives you more ways to style, and even pieces crafted using waterproof techniques but still finished to look and feel luxe. The goal is to create future-facing classics that resonate with you.

M: What can to-be-weds expect from your showcase at FDCI Manifest Wedding Weekend?

KR: At the FDCI manifest wedding weekend, we’re bringing the complete Kunal Rawal experience — a considered blend of versatility, craftsmanship, and sharp individualism. Guests can look forward to exclusive previews of the world of KR, featuring custom brocades, luxurious stoles and pashminas, and multifunctional accessories like our signature buttons, brooches, and brand insignias. This season in menswear, we’re pushing the boundaries of customisation like never before. From made-to-measure fits to coordinated twin pieces for groomsmen, it’s all about celebrating individuality while maintaining a cohesive aesthetic for the entire wedding party. What excites me most is our bold experimentation with colour. The modern palette explores rich tones of blue, wine, brown, mulberry, sand beige, and champagne. You’ll also see fresh reinterpretations of royal blue and black, including deep, almost midnight black blues. Even our neutrals have been reimagined, giving pastels a fresher and more elevated edge this season. As always, every piece reflects the KR design DNA — rooted in functionality, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to product-first design.

For Manifest to become one of Cambridge Dictionary's most viewed words of 2024 — 1,30,000 hits and counting — it means some of us must have Googled it at least once. I know, I hit that search button over and over again
because each time I looked at it, I saw a new meaning.

Putting together a homegrown title at a time when the demise of print has been long announced may seem surprising...
...but it has long been a dream of mine to give India a magazine it deserves. A magazine that is the country.

And nothing, absolutely nothing, represents India more than our weddings. It is a time when families are brought together. Traditions come alive as they are adapted to each couple's beliefs. And lives are joined in a way that the romantic in me still enjoys.
