Designer Gaurav Gupta has been having a rollercoaster of a ride. In January 2023, he became the second Indian designer invited by the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode to show at Paris Haute Couture Week, joining Rahul Mishra, who has been representing India since 2020.

The PFW that happened two months ago was Gaurav’s fourth show in the French capital. However, last month the designer met with a serious accident which left him hospitalised. The couturier was forced to cancel his catwalk and adopt a new strategy. Later, the designer showcased his collection in an intimate showroom-style presentation. A film, too, was released digitally to share the collection with everyone.

Cut to Hyundai India Couture Week 2024 in association with Reliance brands, Gaurav showcased his collection known as Arunodaya. Derived from two Sanskrit terms 'Arun', meaning dawn, and 'Udaya', meaning rise or daybreak. The word Arunodaya means the early dawn.

At the Ashok, New Delhi the setting was ethereal. The set for the showcase featured an Earl Grey setting with a huge silver installation and upbeat music that was reminiscent of temple bell sounds playing in the background. The couturier showcased his collection as models walked down the runway in rich lehengas, sari gowns, and draped saris featuring his impeccable craftsmanship.

Gaurav’s sculptural artistry comes to the centre stage in all his pieces. The standout pieces included engineered, metallic blouses that looked nothing less than armour.

Featuring a soft colour palette with hues like white ivory, comet blue, petal pink, and mauve, the collection came alive with beads, sequins, and crystals.

Sheer fabrics come to life with floral embroidery, zardozi and other intricate embroideries adding a touch of elegance while enhancing it with blink-and-you-miss details.

Meanwhile, evening cocktail jackets for men were showcased too adorned with reflective embroidery in glass and metal, featuring embossed flying birds and intricate art.

The showstoppers Vedang Raina and Khushi Kapoor were spotted in a glitzy black sherwani set and a champagne gold lehenga.

The jewellery partner for the show was Anmol Jewellers. The Maison also launched its latest jewellery collection called Revè: Dream Couture.

For Manifest to become one of Cambridge Dictionary's most viewed words of 2024 — 1,30,000 hits and counting — it means some of us must have Googled it at least once. I know, I hit that search button over and over again
because each time I looked at it, I saw a new meaning.

Putting together a homegrown title at a time when the demise of print has been long announced may seem surprising...
...but it has long been a dream of mine to give India a magazine it deserves. A magazine that is the country.

And nothing, absolutely nothing, represents India more than our weddings. It is a time when families are brought together. Traditions come alive as they are adapted to each couple's beliefs. And lives are joined in a way that the romantic in me still enjoys.
