Decades of legacy, artistry and refined taste in its repertoire, Isvari is one of India's oldest brandsManifest

What a marvel is Isvari Jalandhar that amalgamates tradition and modernity in their collection of jewellery. This Jalandhar based heritage jewellery was established in the aftermath of Partition and is even now one of India's oldest jewellery brands where each of the intricacy has a tale to tell.

A legacy of artistry and exclusive taste makes it the most popular brand, which is exquisitely known for its gem-first philosophy. Every special design of its pieces reflects the rarity and exclusivity of the stones that become a masterpiece in itself and thus, most precious.

Isvari's collections have it all - you name it, and you get it. From the constellation-inspired diamond bangles to the intricately designed earrings adorned with vibrant gemstones, every design sparkles brightly. It endures experienced craftsmanship and modern elegance, which can be the most prized treasure.

In this exclusive conversation with Manifest, Isvari Jalandhar elaborates on their journey in this industry across generations and what can be expected from them at the FDCI Manifest Wedding Weekend.

Manifest: What has your journey in the industry been like so far? Any standout moments or lessons along the way?

Isvari: It has been a legacy of 75 years. I am the fourth generation in this business. Our family has been extremely passionate about creating legacies for our collectors. Each heirloom piece is made over decades… the gemstones collected all over the years by my father, his father and my great-grandfather. When you own an ISVARI Jalandhar jewellery house piece, you own a story. Every piece has a story to tell, and getting into this business comes second nature to me as I have witnessed the passion, grit, compassion and perseverance with which my family has built this maison. Being a fourth-generation entrepreneur of today, I see huge potential in creating masterpieces that go down in history, primarily and fundamentally because of the labour of love and narrative behind each of these collectors’ pieces.

M: What goes into the making of your beautiful jewellery pieces? Can you walk us through the craftsmanship behind them?

I: Each of our gemstones, diamonds, rubies, sapphires , especially the new colours, tanzanite buby lights in pink sapphire, pariba tourmalines with the combination of coloured diamonds, etc., are sourced responsibly from the best of the places and people across the globe. Our ateliers have these master jewellery makers that take the time to create the work, picking cues and design aesthetics that I create with my father. They go through rigorous quality checks, and every piece is carefully created right from the material sourcing to the frame creation, stone settings, engraving and finishing. Like I said earlier…it is a pure labour of love.

M: In a space filled with talent and creativity, what do you believe sets your brand apart?

I: Our brand is based on trust, legacy and a keen understanding of the discerning end consumer today. Our masterpieces are what collectors keep coming back to us for. Not to forget – once a piece is bought…we ensure that the consumer – whether a bride or her entourage – they are our ISVARI family for life. I am overwhelmed even as I type this to tell you that we are truly blessed, as it is the product that is bought as opposed to being sold, and that to me is the ultimate joy of helping people create legacies and heirlooms for time immemorial.

M: From your perspective, which trends are currently shaping the jewellery landscape, and how are they evolving?

I: Very interesting question, but my answer is going to be obtuse. Ironically, we have gone back to our roots trend-wise. It is India and Indianness that the Indians and diaspora around the world are getting drawn to. When a bride walks into our maison, she is already a global citizen, and the profile is such that she practically owns a lot of what the world has to offer. But she will still walk into the ISVARI Jalandhar Jewellery House because she values her roots and makes an emotional buy. Now, if you wish to call that a trend, be that as it may, but this is what I am increasingly witnessing over the years.

M: What can we expect from the label at the FDCI Manifest Wedding Weekend?

I: At the FDCI Manifest Wedding Weekend, we have a special edit that hits a rather emotional spot for the entire family. I don’t want to give it away, but you will see. Every piece…every piece is curated for the entire family that is about to make the bride get married and give her the ultimate fairytale dream…making her and the whole family shine and sparkle in the colours of joy that hold a significant provenance. Apart from that, we have some rare masterpieces (that have taken decades to create) that we are bringing out exclusively for the wedding weekend. We also have some pret jewellery that can be collected for gifting apart from couture jewellery pieces that fit right for every occasion like cocktails, sangeet, wedding, reception and the whole gamut of functions that lead up to the big moment. One additional surprise in store – but you have to visit our brand there to see what I am talking about!

For Manifest to become one of Cambridge Dictionary's most viewed words of 2024 — 1,30,000 hits and counting — it means some of us must have Googled it at least once. I know, I hit that search button over and over again
because each time I looked at it, I saw a new meaning.

Putting together a homegrown title at a time when the demise of print has been long announced may seem surprising...
...but it has long been a dream of mine to give India a magazine it deserves. A magazine that is the country.

And nothing, absolutely nothing, represents India more than our weddings. It is a time when families are brought together. Traditions come alive as they are adapted to each couple's beliefs. And lives are joined in a way that the romantic in me still enjoys.

The fact that it comes with band, baaja and baraat — what's not to love? And that is the reason our first issue celebrates:
    THE NEW BRIDE.
