Back in 2003, Louis Vuitton and Japanese artist Takashi Murakami came together to blur the lines between traditional craftsmanship and contemporary art. Helmed by Marc Jacobs, the then Artistic Director of the label, the collaboration became a seminal moment in fashion history, and not just because the artist reimagined the iconic LV monogram pattern for the first time in history.
Items from this collection have remained in demand amongst collectors over the years. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the collaboration, Louis Vuitton and Murakami are launching an extensive re-edition collection with Zendaya fronting the campaign.
The Chapter One of the re-edition will feature over 200 pieces, including bags, footwear, fragrances, and sunglasses. The highlights of the relaunch include the Monogram Multicolore, its interlocking LV and floral motifs in 33 different colours rendered masterfully across a white background on City Bags like the Speedy, the Coussine, the Dauphine, and the On The Go.
It’s also featured on other leather goods like belts, wallets, wedges espadrilles and the Rolling Trunk. Murakami’s whimsical Superflat Panda character also makes an appearance on items like sneakers, keyrings, and a black skateboard. Some of the label’s fragrances are also getting an upgrade in the relaunch, with the Superflat Garden and Superflat Panda motifs gracing the Attrape-Rêves and Imagination bottles.
This re-edition is perfect for those who crave Y2K nostalgia, with its bold splashes of colours and familiar motifs that caught the fancy of It girls of the era, like Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton, Jessica Simpson and even Mean Girls’ Regina George.
The Louis Vuitton X Murakami re-edition will be celebrated within a fully immersive visual landscape, ranging from window displays to pop-ups and pop-ins, as well as innovative in-store activations around major hot spots. The collection will be available to order worldwide from 1st January 2025. A second chapter will be launched in March 2025 and focus on the artist’s perfect-for-spring Cherry Blossom pattern.
