Drawing inspiration from this poignant tale of love is Montblanc’s latest offering, Meisterstück Romeo & Juliet. Montblanc has channelled the beauty and poignance of William Shakespeare’s legendary play into this unique collection.

This Valentine’s Day, as Montblanc launches a beautiful collection of writing instruments and accessories inspired by the greatest love tragedy of all time, we are loving the beautiful amalgamation of love with luxury writing instruments. With a meticulous attention to detail, each writing instrument in this collection is peppered with design elements that echo key details of the play.

The soft-cream-coloured resin on the Meisterstück Juliet Precious Resin Edition is intentional; it symbolises Juliet’s celestial presence, echoing Romeo’s words: “O speak again, bright angel!”, as he compares her to a messenger from heaven. The delicate feather motifs on the cap evoke Juliet’s angelic character, while the gold-coated fittings and the cap engraved with the letter “C” represent her family name Capulet, as a homage to her lineage. The cap top bears the initials “C” and “M”, entwined with thorn branches to symbolise the deep-rooted rivalry between the Capulet and the Montague families. While the signature handcrafted solid Au 585 gold nib is decorated with heart and dagger motifs, the "Juliet" is written across the centre, encapsulating her pure heart and inner strength.

With a cream-colored precious resin barrel and signature gold-coated cap intricately engraved with a feather design, the Meisterstück Juliet Doué Classique Edition captures the angelic radiance of Juliet. The cap top with the red colour surrounding the Montblanc emblem symbolises unifying love, and this detail can be seen on all editions across the collection.

Crafted in a deep, teal-colored precious resin, the Meisterstück Romeo Doué LeGrand Edition is inspired by the shaded intimacy of Capulet’s orchard. While the platinum-coated cap is engraved in a leaf pattern and the letter “M” for Romeo’s family name, Montague, the rhodium-coated solid Au 585 gold nib is engraved with “Romeo”.

While the star-crossed lovers could never be united, this next edition amalgamates the two of them into one design. The Meisterstück Romeo & Juliet Solitaire LeGrand Edition has a cap and a barrel made from teal-coloured degradé lacquer, which is engraved with a filigree gold-coated leaf pattern, which stands for the greenery of Capulet’s orchard. The red colour at the top of the cap symbolises love, while the letters “C” and “M” intertwining references the age-old rivalry of their families, and how it decides the fate of their love. This poignant theme is also referenced by the thorny branches on the cap top and cone, symbolising the pain of a love that came to such a tragic end. The solid Au 750 gold nib decorated with “R + J” symbolises that the strength of their union transcends conflict.

The last edition, Meisterstück Romeo & Juliet Limited Edition 715, is the most beautiful and meticulous one of them all, in our humble opinion. The limitation of this masterpiece of an instrument pays homage to the play’s structure, with “7” being the number of days over which the tragedy unfolds, 1 and 5 for Act 1, scene 5, when Romeo and Juliet first meet and instantly fall in love. How beautiful is that? Crafted from Ag 925 sterling silver with lacquered leaf motifs and adorned with three solid gold inlays, two representing doves and one representing the moon, the edition’s design mirrors the tension between beauty and fate. Elements like the red colour on the cap top symbolising love, “R + J” engraving, and thorny branches symbolising tragedy, find their way into this edition as well.
