Simple, sexy, and effortlessly stunning is how we would describe a typical Namrata Joshipura creation. Apart from being absolutely gorgeous, her creations also look like they’re easy to move in. Whether it’s her signature wide-legged jumpsuits or her relaxed pre-draped sarees, Namrata Joshipura seems to be designing for the bride who means business when it comes to dancing the night away at her cocktail party.

In conversation with Namrata Joshipura

Manifest: What inspires you to create every day?

Namrata: My love for fashion!

M: What are the three essentials from you that make an all-rounder trousseau?

N: One, our evening jumpsuits. Second, are our draped sarees. They're perfect for the cocktail. And third would be our modern Indian category where you have separates. So those three are our signature styles.

M: What do you love most about Indian weddings?

N: The joy, the happiness, the spirit... And the sense of everyone coming together. I just love that!

M: What is the fashion trend that you feel is going to dominate the wedding season?

N: Definitely, sarees. They have been around, but now there are lots of forms and drapes and styles. So, my go-to would be sarees.

M: Three things to-be-weds need to know when they are choosing their wedding look?

N: One, know what works for you and not just blindly follow trends. Second, you know you have to endure the whole evening—the wedding, and all the activities around it, so make sure you are ready; you're aware of what your garment entails, and you can endure those endless hours of the wedding: sitting, standing, pheras and all of that, because sometimes these wedding outfits are almost 10 kgs and the tiny bride is drowned in it. So, you have to be mindful of that. And third, of course, you have to coordinate with the groom. It’s very important that your outfits are coordinated.

M: Is your favourite a demure bride or a brat bride?

N: I think I'm more of a balanced person, so someone in the middle.

M: What can people expect from your showcase at the wedding weekend?

N: We're coming up with a Demi couture line. So, this would be perfect for the family of the bride, the guests of the bride, the bride's own trousseau. Bride’s own cocktail wear. So that's what we are. The collection is going to be modern, contemporary, but of course, with artisanal and traditional embroidery techniques.

M: What, according to you, sets the FDCI Manifest Wedding Weekend apart, since you decided to join us for the first time for this?

N: One, It's an amazing platform. It's a one stop shop for all the brides to be. And it covers the entire spectrum, from jewellery to clothes to the trousseau to the outfits for the entire family, everything is covered.

M: Three faux pas you hate to see a bride make?

N: One would definitely be terrible makeup, where the brides don’t look like themselves. You go back and look at the album, and it's like, “Was that me or was that someone else at the wedding?”. One is definitely that. Second would be following a trend blindly just because other brides are—you have to be mindful if it's your style.
