In March 2025, Shyamal & Bhumika opened the doors to their Mehrauli flagship in New Delhi. It is an address that, a year later, feels less like a retail space and more like a living heirloom. Tucked within the leafy enclave of Ambawatta One, moments away from the Qutub Minar, the store was imagined as a world apart, where couture, architecture, and memory exist in quiet harmony.

“Here at Mehrauli, we found a stunning façade surrounded by greenery and history. It is accessible, yet private — something very important for our clients,” the designers share.

Step inside and the rhythm of the city softens. In its place rises what feels like a modern-day haveli, shaped by nostalgia and craftsmanship. Drawing from their childhood in Ahmedabad, Shyamal and Bhumika revisited the visual language of their own ancestral homes while conceptualising the space, translating the warmth and intricacy of two-hundred-year-old havelis into a contemporary couture setting.

“You enter our world the moment you set your eyes on our carved walls,” says Bhumika Shodhan. At the heart of the store stands a dramatic wall made from antique wooden panels sourced from centuries-old homes, grounding the space in history. Fourteen-foot ceilings suspend traditional hinchka chains adorned with brass elephants, parrots, and peacocks, each holding a bridal lehenga like a treasured artefact. Indo-European rosewood mirrors appear to float mid-air, while lime-plastered walls, rustic wooden floors, and vintage chandeliers cast a soft, diffused glow across the interiors.

Over the past year, the Mehrauli store has played host to collections including Falaknuma, Summer Couture & Wedding 2025, and Regal Portraits, each displayed within the space like chapters of a continuing narrative. Rather than a conventional showcase, the store functions as a living gallery — one where garments, architecture, and memory exist in conversation.

A year since its opening, the Mehrauli flagship stands as more than a milestone for the label. It is Delhi’s own haveli of couture, where heritage is not preserved behind glass, but lived in — quietly, intimately, and with timeless ease.

For Manifest to become one of Cambridge Dictionary's most viewed words of 2024 — 1,30,000 hits and counting — it means some of us must have Googled it at least once. I know, I hit that search button over and over again
because each time I looked at it, I saw a new meaning.

Putting together a homegrown title at a time when the demise of print has been long announced may seem surprising...
...but it has long been a dream of mine to give India a magazine it deserves. A magazine that is the country.

And nothing, absolutely nothing, represents India more than our weddings. It is a time when families are brought together. Traditions come alive as they are adapted to each couple's beliefs. And lives are joined in a way that the romantic in me still enjoys.

The fact that it comes with band, baaja and baraat — what's not to love? And that is the reason our first issue celebrates:
    THE NEW BRIDE.
