Reynu Taandon is a believer in competing with her own work as opposed to with others, and dare we say, it shows in her craft. In a conversation with Manifest, Reynu Taandon talks about the upcoming FDCI Manifest Wedding Weekend, the Reynu Taandon muse, and the most common mistakes brides might be making while planning their wedding look.

    In Conversation With Reynu Taandon

Manifest: What inspires you to create every day?

Reynu: My own creativity. I love creating things and then I like to compete with them.

M: What is your favourite part about Indian weddings?

    R: The beautiful brides!

M: What are some fashion trends that you're loving this wedding season?

R: I’m loving that everything is getting bolder.

M: Three things to-be-weds need to know when they're choosing their wedding look?

R: Well, if a bride is looking for her wedding attire, the most important thing is for her to look for something that feels like her. That’s very important. A lot of brides look for something that they are not, and they end up feeling very uncomfortable. Whatever you are, you look like yourself. Of course, it's the designer’s job to make you look prettier, more beautiful, more romantic, dreamierand we understand that. But please be yourself, that is the most important thing. Secondly, my request to all the brides is to keep your makeup nude, and as natural as possible. No matter what color you’re wearing, if your skin feels like your skin, the color will suit you better. If your skin is as it is, just like your heart and your beautiful mind, you look better and more confident.

M: And what about the men?

R: Men have to follow the ladies. If the lady is wearing red with ivory, he has to wear ivory with red.

M: What can brides and grooms expect from your showcase at the wedding weekend?

R: Well, the brides should be looking for something completely different. Every year when we work on our bridal collection, we have to come up with a different technology, different texture, different embroidery, different colour. But yes, the USP has to be the same. When people look at the piece, they should say “This is a Reynu Taandon outfit” or whichever the brand the piece is.

M: What, in your opinion, sets FDCI Manifest Wedding Weekend, apart from other wedding collectives?

R: Well, I've been working with FDCI for years. The FDCI Manifest Wedding Weekend brings together the most talented minds for this showcase. This is the place where all the designers showcase the best of what they’ve got. A lot of brides like to come and see, and that's the best thing. Brides come here from everywhere. Because it is FDCI, so it is the right designers. It’s great to see all these talentsand the right talentstogether under one roof.

M: If there was one Bollywood bride you had to style, which would it be?

R: Well, Bollywood movies keep coming. There are so many actresses. This one time, one of my lehengas was worn by Karishna Kapoor. And it looked very beautiful, she carried it with elegance. When somebody carries something well, it looks pretty. Everybody would like the biggest names in the business to wear their creations, but ultimately, the person who can carry your outfit the best is the best fit for you.

For Manifest to become one of Cambridge Dictionary's most viewed words of 2024 — 1,30,000 hits and counting — it means some of us must have Googled it at least once. I know, I hit that search button over and over again
because each time I looked at it, I saw a new meaning.

Putting together a homegrown title at a time when the demise of print has been long announced may seem surprising...
...but it has long been a dream of mine to give India a magazine it deserves. A magazine that is the country.

And nothing, absolutely nothing, represents India more than our weddings. It is a time when families are brought together. Traditions come alive as they are adapted to each couple's beliefs. And lives are joined in a way that the romantic in me still enjoys.

The fact that it comes with band, baaja and baraat — what's not to love? And that is the reason our first issue celebrates:
    THE NEW BRIDE.
