Jimmy Choo's Sandra Choi speaks to Meghna Sharma

Manifest: How did you translate the key themes of Indian festive seasons into the design language of Jimmy Choo's new celebratory capsule collection?
Sandra Choi: “Festive seasons in India are filled with emotion and brilliance, moments where light, joy and elegance take centre stage. These themes naturally aligned with Jimmy Choo’s DNA. We translated that energy into luminous materials, mirrored finishes, golden tones, and a sense of movement and sparkle. Each design is meant to evoke the feeling of celebration, while remaining timeless and wearable beyond the festivities.”
M: Did Indian craftsmanship, textiles, or design traditions influence this collection in any way?
SC: “Absolutely…Indian artistry has long been admired for its intricacy and soul. Rather than replicating, we reinterpreted these codes through a modern, sculptural lens to create festive pieces that feel both globally relevant and deeply respectful of Indian craftsmanship.”

M: India is known for its love of bold colours and ornate detailing—how did you balance that with Jimmy Choo’s core aesthetic?
SC: “It’s about finding harmony between decor and refinement. India’s love for colour, texture, and detail offers so much inspiration. We channelled that richness into metallic fabrics, delicate sparkle, and sculptural silhouettes, translating ornate into sleek, and bold into elegant. The result is a capsule that speaks both to India’s vibrancy and Jimmy Choo’s signature sophistication.”
M: What excites you the most when designing for a market as culturally rich and fashion-forward as India?
SC: “Designing is creatively energising. India is a country where tradition and modernity exist in perfect balance, and fashion reflects that beautifully. There’s a fearless approach to style, a love for storytelling through clothing and accessories. That dynamic spirit inspires us to push boundaries while remaining emotionally connected to meaning.”

M: Could you walk us through the standout pieces in this capsule and the story behind them?
SC: “One of the highlights is the AMEL 50 sandal with its drop heel—it captures the interplay of light and movement that defines the festive season. There’s also the BON BON and SWEETIE bags, which feels almost like jewellery and are designed to shine under the lights of celebration, but also to endure as modern icons in any wardrobe.”
M: Lastly, with Indian weddings being such a global phenomenon, how do you envision Jimmy Choo as part of that celebration wardrobe?
SC: “Indian weddings are the epitome of glamour, and every detail is carefully chosen. At Jimmy Choo, we see ourselves as part of those once-in-a-lifetime moments, offering pieces that are both beautiful and meaningful. Whether it’s a crystal-embellished pump for the bride, or sleek heels for a destination reception, our designs are crafted to elevate every chapter of the celebration with elegance, glamour, and lasting impact.”
