All The Times The Jewellery Was The Main Character in Movies and Shows
We watch these movies for the plot—if jewellery counts as ‘plot'...
We have established the fact that movies and TV shows (the kind that we watch anyway) are our main source of unrealistic expectations for love. But, another thing that they are shamelessly feeding us with is the most drool-worthy jewellery that makes us contemplate robbing a bank.
Whether it’s the famous The Heart of the Ocean necklace in Titanic, or Julia Roberts’ necklace with heart-shaped rubies in Pretty Woman, these pieces aren’t just accessories, but main characters in their own right.
Best Onscreen Jewellery Moments
Rose’s The Heart of the Ocean Necklace in Titanic
We can’t not talk about the Heart of the Ocean Necklace that Rose’s fiancé gifts her in Titanic. From the search for the necklace serving as a catalyst to unfold Jack and Rose’s story, to Rose wearing nothing but the necklace when Jack is “drawing her like one of his French girls”, the necklace is a character in the movie. We will forever remain salty about the fact that the stunning necklace ultimately landed in the ocean. There were other ways to let go of your past, Rose!!
Holly’s Tiffany & Co. Necklace in Breakfast at Tiffany’s
The visual of Audrey Hepburn peeping through the window of the Tiffany & Co. store while having a croissant and coffee in the opening scene of Breakfast at Tiffany’s is forever etched in our memories. While part of the reason is her iconic Givenchy dress, the other reason is her stunning Tiffany & Co. jewels. She wears a multi-layered pearl choker with a huge brooch on it, diamond studs, and a small crown-like accessory.
Her wearing all of that for a casual stroll might have been a stretch, but we were obviously too distracted by her look to notice that.
Carrie’s engagement ring in Sex and the City
At the end of the Sex and the City movie, Big proposes to Carrie, and because she is Carrie, she gets a five-carat black diamond ring. When Carrie asks, “Why black?”, Big tells her that it’s because she’s unlike anyone else. Smooooth, Big!
Sigh. When will we get a black diamond ring because we’re unlike anyone else?
Vivian’s necklace with heart-shaped rubies in Pretty Woman
You can’t talk about iconic on-screen jewellery moments and leave out the stunning Ruby necklace that Edward presents to Vivian before taking her to an Opera in Pretty Woman. The necklace, crafted in white gold, diamonds and rubies, features several heart-shaped rubies, was created especially for the movie, and went on to become one of the most popular jewellery pieces in pop culture history. If we forget to tell you later, this piece is our favourite one of the lot. (Get it?)
All of Jodhaa's jewellery in Jodhaa Akbar
The absolute chokehold that Aishwarya's jewellery in Jodhaa Akbar had us in needs to be studied. From stunning, massive multi-layered Ruby necklaces to long pearl necklaces and naths the size of a bangle, the jewellery was the epitome of all things regal. Not to forget, the movie had us crushing over borlas for a very long time. Also, on a separate note, we would be lying if we said that we didn't dream of casually going to bed in layers and layers of necklaces.
Andie’s yellow diamond necklace in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
Kate Hudson’s character Andie wearing the iconic yellow Carolina Herrera gown in the gala scene in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, is our Roman Empire. What really takes the look to the next level, however, is her 80-carat yellow diamond Harry Winston necklace. We want to have what Andie is having—this stunning necklace, and Benjamin.
