Margot Robbie's Taj Mahal Diamond Necklace has an India Connect
This stunning pendant belonged to Elizabeth Taylor which was a gift from Richard Burton.
All eyes were on Margot Robbie's striking heart-shape pendant as she attended the premiere of Wuthering Heights in Los Angeles. The 35-year-old actor strutted her stuff in a strapless Schiaparelli gown and looked pretty as a picture. The heart-shaped Taj Mahal Diamond pendant by Cartier was gifted to Elizabeth Taylor by Richard Burton on her 40th birthday, in 1972. Interestingly, both Elizabeth and Richard Burton were married to different people at that time and their affair had set tongues wagging.
Elizabeth wore this necklace publicly many years later at a party for the Foundation for AIDS Research. This iconic necklace has an India connect and it is believed that Shah Jahan had gifted this necklace to Mumtaz, which he had received as gift from his father Jehangir. Later in 1971, French luxury brand Cartier acquired the Taj Mahal Diamond adorned with gemstones and table-cut diamonds, accessorised on a silk cord.
The Taj Mahal pendant is a symbol of love as it was born out of a mad love story. It has Nur Jahan Begum-e-Padshah 1037 engraved in Persian. This pendant signifies that some love stories are not meant to be gentle. They continue to light up lives even after their owners are gone.
Margot's Schiaparelli dress featured a black lace detail on the bodice and a dramatic mermaid-style silhoutte. She styled her hair in a romantic bun with red flush to her cheeks. Her eye makeup was minimal with a light application of mascara on her lashes to let the iconic necklace standout.
The exquisite necklace is worth is $8 million which is approximately 74 crore.
