While multi-layered necklaces with heavy solitaires have enjoyed their time in the spotlight for years, fine jewellery has become popular recently Millennials and Gen Z jewellery enthusiasts are being drawn to contemporary styles that strike a balance between craftsmanship and versatility. The shift in how people view jewellery was foreseen by entrepreneur Prakshi Sharma, which eventually led to the conception of the brand Praskhi Fine Jewellery.
In a conversation withManifest, the founder takes us through her accidental venture into jewellery designing, the inspiration behind creating her designs and why the fine jewellery trend is here to stay…
Manifest: Tell us more about Prakshi Fine Jewellery…
Prakshi Sharma: My brand, Prakshi, reflects the person I am. I make pieces for the ambitious, focused, modern-day hustler who is well aware of things and constantly strives for growth. Prakshi has been designing modular jewellery pieces for nearly a decade. Each piece is hand-crafted, and our production is entirely in-house. We adhere to European standards of purity and do not negotiate with it. The diamonds used are entirely natural, and the gold is above 18 carats. Because I am an avid traveller, the designs derive their inspiration from my travel diaries, whether it is a natural scenery at a place or a historical structure somewhere in the heart of a lost city.
M: How has the brand evolved over the years? Has people’s perception of fine jewellery shifted, in your opinion?
PS:When we started as a brand, my designs were a mix of precious and semi-precious stones. I was also doing a lot of Polki work, and although the collection did well, we eventually discovered our calling. Balancing the elements of elegance, sophistication, style, and minimalism is the need of the hour because the modern-day crowd prefers to wear pieces that can be worn over time rather than opting for heavy designs worn once in a blue moon. We have started designing multi-purpose pieces like choker bracelets so that people can wear them in multiple ways and feel satiated about their monetary investment.
M: What inspires you to create?
PS:Like all people in the creative field, I also face a block on certain days, which is difficult to battle. The inspiration behind my designs lies primarily in my travelling. Earlier, I used to derive my inspiration from ancient architecture. Now, I also look for inspiration in the natural scenery of a place. In a highly competitive market, it becomes monotonous on the consumer's end when you try to tweak the designs of pieces existing before. Hence, there are days when I ask my design team not to come to work, take a day off and visit a particular place to derive their inspiration and let the creativity seep into their minds.
M: What jewellery trends do you think will be there everywhere this wedding season?
PS:Single-line necklaces are the new heirlooms. They are not going anywhere anytime soon. You can wear them for multiple occasions, and I see that they will be passed down the generations. Although chokers have been in the limelight since 2015, choker bracelets are the new trend that is here to stay.
