Zendaya’s East-West Engagement Ring Could Be 2025’s Top Jewellery Trend
Take a deep dive into the history of this unique engagement ring…
There is just something about a celebrity revealing their engagement ring (we’d say engagement, but come on, you know, you love to see that bling). It’s always a delight to see the rings and rocks that partners choose for their fiancés because it says so much about how considerate a partner is. Also, an engagement ring is a resounding proclamation of love and we love to see it happen!
So, when Zendaya showed up to the Golden Globes this year and stunned in an orange Louis Vuitton strapless gown, we couldn’t help but notice a rather intriguing ring on her left hand as she suavely walked the red carpet. The Challengers’ main lead was seen donning a spectacular, five-carat, cushion-cut, east-west ring by London-based jewellery designer Jessica McCormack. So, though it hasn’t been officially announced, it seems Zendaya and Tom Holland (who’ve been speculated to be dating since 2021) are engaged. And now, Zendaya’s east-west ring is on its way to becoming the hottest engagement ring trend of the year!
What Is An East-West Engagement Ring?
The history of the ring design and setting became prominent in the 1920s as it reflected the signature elements of the Art Deco movement. An east-west ring is characterised by a horizontally laid-out centre jewel, especially if the jewel or the gemstone is elongated. So, the design can be created using oval cut, marquise, emerald cut, pear cut, gemstones and diamonds. Celebrities such as Lily Collins, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Kate Hudson also sported east-west engagement rings. While Lily Collins announced her espousal with a rose-cut diamond, Catherine Zeta-Jones was proposed to with a 10-carat side-set marquise diamond, and Kate Hudson was seen wearing an almost 10-carat cushion cut diamond, at the Met Gala in 2021.
Why Should You Choose An East-West Engagement Ring?
A horizontally set gemstone offers an unconventional aesthetic to the ring. It also highlights the diamond or jewel and enhances its size due to the length running across the finger. Aside from this, the east-west engagement ring can be considered androgynous. You can easily choose to get a side-set diamond ring for your to-be husband as well. The east-west engagement ring symbolises an even relationship, where both people are intent on moving forward on the same path. There is also a level of casualness and everyday ease that it offers.
So, if these are some of the elements you think define your relationship, the east-west engagement ring is definitely a strong contender!
