Light and translucent, it’s just the hue you need on a daytime date with your special one

If you are a beauty girlie (or even if you’re not), chances are you've heard about the watercolour blush. This beautiful, seamless blush is everywhere right now, and for good reason. Unlike the traditional powder blushes that sit on top of the skin, watercolour blush is a kind of liquid blush that offers a sheer effect. Think about how watercolours give a translucent effect wherein you can slightly see the surface of the paper. That’s exactly how the watercolour blush works.
The light, sheer blush gives a soft, natural flush that looks like it’s coming from within rather than from a blush. Make-up artist and hairstylist Nandini Arora explains, “Similar to painting, it diffuses the edges of the blush in a way that you can’t tell where the blush starts and where it merges with your skin. It’s a more natural way of mimicking the flush of your cheeks. Suitable for people who want the blush effect without looking unnatural.”
While a powder blush can easily be overdone, it’s nearly impossible to overdo a watercolour blush since it is translucent and blends seamlessly into the skin. Which makes it great for beginners and for people who don’t like the kind of blush where you can tell that someone is wearing a blush. The sheer, liquid formula of this blush will work particularly well for a hot day, when the last thing you want to wear on your face is something heavy or with a high coverage.
Nandini explains that the application of the product is also pretty simple. “The best way to achieve this look is by using a cream or liquid blush product. Using your fingers as tools, take a little and gently build it up as you go,” adds the artist.
Makeup artist Riya Saluja suggests that you can also pair two different kinds of watercolour blushes together. “Create a dewy canvas with a well hydrated skin. Layer two sheer blush shades, and blend them until the colours melt together. You can also add it on the nose and temples for a beautiful, youthful look,” she explains.
