If you’re looking for an eyeliner hack to make your eyes look more awake, this might just be it.

Every decade ushers in a beauty trend that ends up defining it. From the red lips of the 1950s to the glossy lips of the early aughts and the intense contouring of the 2010s, beauty trends are ever evolving.
The 2020s can be characterised by out-there beauty trends like holographic eyeshadows, soap nails, and the ever-striking graphic eyeliner looks.

Speaking of graphic eyeliner looks, a new one has been slowly gaining popularity online. Have you heard of the Fishtail Eyeliner trend?
Like the name suggests, it’s a double liner trend that makes your eye shape look like a fish. Interested in trying it this Summer? Here’s everything you need to know…
Hollywood celebrities such as Jenna Ortega and Bella Hadid have been spotted carrying it and giving the rest of us major inspiration! You could say that the trend began slowly rising to popularity when HBO series Euphoria’s makeup artist, Doniella Davy, created several graphic eyeliner looks for its characters Lexi (played by Maude Apatow) and Maddy (aka Alexa Demie).
Davy’s inspiration came from the 1960s, and who better to look toward than 60’s popular English model and actress Lesley Lawson, professionally known as Twiggy. Twiggy was known for her distinct eye makeup, which involved creating a top winged eyeliner and a lashline with bold eyelash-like strokes, which can provide the same eye-opening and enlarging effect.

It might look tricky, but the fishtail eyeliner look is surprisingly easy to create.
To get the look, apply a winged eyeliner on top of your eyelid. Follow it up with applying eyeliner at your lashline, and creating a wing that points downward, mirroring the wing on the top. It is advisable to try this with a fine-point liner for accuracy.
Anyone! Fishtail eyeliner provides the illusion of wider, or bigger eyes. So, if you’re looking to make your eyes look more awake and open, then this is the perfect trend for you. Though applying it in different ways can tweak the visual appeal. Here’s how you can change it up to get the desired effect.
If you’re looking to create a more doe-eyed look, or one where your eyes look bigger, more awake, then consider filling in the negative space between the top eyeliner wing and the bottom eyeliner wing with white eyeliner, highlighter or eyeshadow and keeping the wings relatively shorter in length.
By stretching the eyeliner horizontally, you can create the illusion of a cat-eye. This would also mean that you would need to keep the length of the wings longer than usual.
So, will you be trying this new eyeliner trend?
