Few people bring Bollywood together for a festive celebration quite like Nita Ambani. For Ganesh Chaturthi, Antilia once again welcomed some of the country’s biggest names, including Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Vicky Kaushal, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Salman Khan. Yet, even amid a guest list packed with fashion heavyweights, the hostess commanded attention in a look that celebrated Indian craft at its most spectacular.

Ambani wore a vibrant orange and magenta silk saree from her curated Swadesh Online collection. Rich in colour and detailed with gold accents, the traditional drape offered a striking alternative to the softer pastels and neutral tones often favoured for festive dressing. A matching embroidered potli, finished with playful orange tassels, continued the colour story without pulling focus from the centrepiece of the look: an enormous jadau necklace by Amrapali Jewels.

A Necklace That Carries India’s Jewellery Traditions

Named Amrapali Bharatam, the shoulder-to-shoulder necklace is less an accessory and more a work of wearable art. Predominantly assembled from antique and vintage ornaments collected across India, the piece took three years of sourcing, followed by six months of meticulous creation involving 14 master karigars.

A traditional Kerala necklace forms its crown, while jhoomars, South Indian naths, monumental earrings, billas and chandbalis have been liberated from their original functions and reimagined within its architecture. Pearls, emeralds, rubies and diamonds bring colour and luminosity to its sprawling jadau framework.

Its intentional asymmetry is part of its charm. Rather than making every component uniform, Amrapali preserves the distinct regional identity and history of the individual ornaments. Missing links and settings were handcrafted to bring them together as one composition while allowing their original character to remain visible. The result is a contemporary heirloom created from fragments of India’s jewellery past.

Ambani allowed the piece to take up the space it deserved. She kept her beauty look classic with defined eyes, a soft pink lip and a bright magenta bindi, while her hair was pulled back into a neat low bun. Coordinated circular earrings, ruby-toned bangles and a diamond statement ring completed the look.

Before Nita Ambani, Sonam Kapoor Wore It

The necklace may have gone viral at Antilia, but keen fashion watchers would recognise it from Sonam Kapoor’s appearance at Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla’s 40th-anniversary celebration in Mumbai earlier this month. Kapoor styled the same Amrapali creation over an ivory, 48-panel anarkali by the designer duo, allowing its antique gold details to stand out against the monochrome ensemble.

Where Kapoor used an ivory canvas to make the necklace appear almost museum-like, Ambani embraced maximalism by placing it against saturated orange and magenta silk. Two very different styling approaches, but one clear wedding-season takeaway: when the jewellery carries this much history and visual drama, it does not simply complete the outfit. It becomes the outfit.
