10 Fuss-Free Ensembles To Be The Best Dressed Wedding Guest

Presenting our guide to acing all the upcoming weddings on your calendar...

Jan 5, 2025
  • We really just have a few weeks left until the wedding season takes over our calendar. Getting the wardrobe in order is not just something the bride and groom will do.  Withthe Big Fat Indian Weddings making a comeback as bigger than ever, it is imperative to invest in pieces that are fuss-free and not heavily embellished for an understated finish.

Not just that, you may be helping your friends and family to do the needful to ensure the festivities are a success… With that pressure, picking the kind of outfit which will work for you may seem overwhelming.

Our suggestion: opt for fuss-free separates, versatile tunics which will flatter all shapes or even a pop of colour to help you stand out.

Scroll through theManifest’s edit of pieces that you can wear the next time you attend a wedding function.

Sarang Kaur Yellow Adree Kaftan (buy here)

This Sarang Kaur number is perfect if you want to move around seamlessly. The kaftan-style kurta has a boat neck—making it an amazing option for anyone who has a slightly heavier bust. You can also get this piece customised as per your requirements… What we love is how it has flared sleeves and looks super comfortable!

Aisha Rao Mystic Seascape Sari (buy here)

If you have a wedding to attend at the beach, we recommend this Aisha Rao number which features a lovely neckline adorned with seashells. The Starboard & Port print adds the right hint of bohemian touch for this look to stand out. Pair it with a chunky pair of earrings or even a hammered cuff for the finishing touches.

    Punit Balana Anarkali (buy here)

If Karisma Kapoor loves this, you know it deserves a place in your wardrobe. This Anarkali from Punit Balana is one to hold and to cherish. The pickle green colour makes it apt for wearing it to a mehendi function. While, the good ol’ V neck design withgota marodiwork with a heavy dupatta makes for a classic lesson in muted Indian wear.

Nero India Glory Blue Tissue Angarakha with Narrow Pants & Dupatta (buy here)

We haven’t left the minimalists out and if you are looking for a comfortable piece that also makes for the right fit for a function, then this one from Nero India is just for you. The powder blueangrakhacomes with a dupatta and features delicate aari work along the edges. While the pants have intricate lace detail.

Rishi & Vibhuti Electric Dream 2.0 Lehenga (buy here)

First things first, what we love about this lehenga by Rishi & Vibhuti is how it is an unusual pairing but is so seamless in nature. We love pieces that can be styled different–the embellished blouse is perfect to be paired with a satin skirt for a night around town while the lehenga in itself can be styled with a different blouse for a haldi function.

Saundh Irja Sharara Set (buy here)

The list obviously had to have a sharara—it is one of those sets that fits all shapes and sizes. And this one from Saudh India also has an unusual colour. The metallic gunpowder set cines with a peplum-style choli and churidar sleeves. The flared jacquard pants feature with  kamal motif. Whereas, the dupatta haslotus flowers printed all over to give it a festive finish.

Rishi And Soujit Mustard Lehenga and Jacket Set (buy here)

An underrated homegrown label, we have picked this mustard jacket and lehenga set from Rishi and Soujit’s latest collection. Crafted out of bemberg silk and georgette—this set not only will catch people’s eye from afar but the jacket is the hero bit of the set. Featuring chinese collars and multi-colour paisley print–the sleeves almost have a cape-like cut which makes it perfect for weddings during the winter.

Kshitij Jhalori Mille Fleur Charcoal Saree (buy here)

Got any weddings in December? We highly recommend you opt for the Mille Fleur Charcoal Saree from Kshitij Jalori. The Silk Satin Crepe sari comes with buta floral motifs peppered across the sari with fringes adorned on the corners. Style it with smokey eyes and a muted brown lip for a 90s effect.

Saaksha & Kinni Riley Blouse, Magnolia Lehenga & Scallop Dupatta (buy here)

Another Bohemian option that will equally turn heads is this Riley Blouse, Magnolia Lehenga from designer duo Saaksha & Kinni. The wave print in deep blue hue with princess neckline blouse features hand embroidered mirror and thread work outline. The scalloped edge dupatta lends a hint of modern Indian vibe to the piece. FYI, this lehenga comes with pockets. We highly urge you to ditch the clutch!

17 17 Simmi Saboo lehenga (buy here)

The blouse may not have been given much importance over the years, but this lehenga brings back the blouse in a sexy yet elegant way. The V-neck gothic blouse can also be paired with a pair of Sharara pants for a chic look.

The Loom Red Aari Suit (buy here)

This list couldn’t have been finished without a suit that isn’t red in colour. We love this festive piece from The Loom. This three-piece set features a red aari embroidered chanderi kurta. The neckline is round and has 3/th sleeves with lace detailing on the same. The surprise element is the purple organza dupatta which takes the set a notch higher.

For Manifest to become one of Cambridge Dictionary's most viewed words of 2024 — 1,30,000 hits and counting — it means some of us must have Googled it at least once. I know, I hit that search button over and over again
because each time I looked at it, I saw a new meaning.

Putting together a homegrown title at a time when the demise of print has been long announced may seem surprising...
...but it has long been a dream of mine to give India a magazine it deserves. A magazine that is the country.

And nothing, absolutely nothing, represents India more than our weddings. It is a time when families are brought together. Traditions come alive as they are adapted to each couple's beliefs. And lives are joined in a way that the romantic in me still enjoys.
