Minimalist luxury labels Abraham & Thakore and Obeetee have come together to merge fashion, art and decor and there is much to explore with their new collection that highlights Indian textiles and crafts. Obeetee is known to release collaborative projects with other notable designers such as Tarun Tahiliani, JJ Valaya, Anju Modi and more. The label has collaborated with Abraham and Thakore in the past. In 2017, Obeetee and Abraham & Thakore came together to create the ‘Proud to be Indian' collection which highlighted some of our country’s most exclusive crafts such as the Kanchipuram weave, block prints, and tie and dye. Abraham & Thakore and Obeetee Come Together In More Ways Than One
From stunning Banarsi silk, and upcycled artwork to Indian textile Kantha being turned into loungewear, bed linens and much, much more, Rakesh Rathore and David Abraham have created something for every craft lover looking to decorate their home.
One half of the designer duo Rakesh Thakore says this collection can be the perfect addition to newlyweds’ first home together. “We have a large collection for someone who’s setting up their home, irrespective of which city they are in. From floor coverings from Obeetee, to tableware and bed linens as well, there is a lot you can explore. Though, if you’re looking for something bold, our black and white and red and white colour palettes might just be the right fit for you,” he says, asManifestcatches up with him at the launch of the collection.
The designers have curated and worked with textiles which have been commissioned from clusters and artisans across different regions of the country. “The textile artworks are specially commissioned to the weaving clusters we work with. These are crafted in techniques like double Ikat from Andhra Pradesh, Jamdani from Bengal, brocade from Varanasi, hand block printing, hand applique and cutwork. Along with this, we’ve included embroidery techniques which involve intricate stitching like Kantha, Chikankari Badla work and have used discarded hospital X-ray sheets that have been turned into sequins for embellishments,” says Rakesh.
From the the designers’ signature black and white-hued bed linens, and red and white upholstery to a neutral paletted Ikat translated in a handwoven rug, A&T and Obeetee have created magic with this recent collection.
