Your Handy Guide To All Things Anti-Ageing Serums

Different phases of life call for various types of skincare. Presenting a round-up of the serums that are a total treat...

  • Whether it's slathering retinol serums thrice a week or blocking an appointment with an esthetician to reduce crow's feet, all of us have broken our rules (at the cost of sounding extra!) to ensure our skin is glowing and youthful.

Enter: face serums packed with powerful ingredients that seep deep into your skin.

When it comes to combating the signs of ageing, face serums work best. Because of their texture, they're designed to deliver active ingredients deep into the skin. However, all are not created equally. With many numerous options in the market, it can be a tad bit daunting and overwhelming. Hence, we have mentioned various kinds of serums to help you achieve your desired skin goals.

Dr Deepti Rana, MD Dermatology and Senior Consultant at Max Hospital, New Delhi, says, "All of us are aware that there are many actives known to consumers. Think Vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, retinol et al. However, there is no one treatment for all and one solution or a single serum cannot function for everyone.”

Assam-based Dr Debeshi, Founder Lueur Aesthetics says, "A 26-year-old can use retinol too. Starting retinol in your mid-20s can be beneficial for preventative skincare. It helps maintain skin elasticity, even out skin tone, and reduce the early signs of ageing. However, it's crucial to start with a low concentration and use it sparingly to avoid irritation. Consulting with a dermatologist before starting retinol can help tailor the usage."

Dr. Deepti also suggests that sunscreen and moisturiser are the cornerstones of a good skincare routine at any age. While teenagers only need these essentials, those in their 20s and 30s can benefit from a gentle cleanser, with acne-prone individuals potentially needing a targeted cleanser.

She adds, "Early signs of aging in this age group can be addressed with a vitamin C serum. As you move into your 30s and 40s, consider increasing your moisturising frequency and incorporating a retinol serum. Always consulting a dermatologist beforehand. Beyond 40, hyaluronic acid can further boost hydration."

We've rounded up serums that contain, not just retinol, but other ingredients such as antioxidants, brightening, and hydrating actives that offer double-duty results...
