Touted to be bigger and more effective than Botox, here’s everything to know about exosome therapy for skincare…

Using external therapies for cell regeneration to avail its anti-ageing effects might have seemed like something out of a particularly entertaining Doctor Who episode, but it’s 2025, and skincare therapies have come a long, long way.
Over the past few years, exosome therapy has been gaining a reputation for its anti-ageing benefits all over the world. While it has been known to explore regenerative medicine in repairing joints and cartilage, scientists and dermatologists have also discovered that it could be skincare gold.

“Unlike traditional skincare ingredients like hyaluronic acid or retinol, exosomes work on a cellular level, addressing the root causes of aging and damage. They are scientifically advanced, backed by clinical studies, and have shown significant results in rejuvenating and repairing skin,” says Byong Seung-cho, CEO of South Korean exosome-based biomedicine and regenerative aesthetics company ExoCoBio.
ASCEPlus by ExoCoBio recently launched in India, and the CEO claims it could be a game-changer for Indian skin care enthusiasts. “Exosome therapy has the potential to redefine the Indian skincare market by introducing a scientifically advanced, results-oriented, and regenerative approach to skincare,” says Byong Seung-Cho, “By addressing key concerns like pigmentation, aging, and repair and integrating it with existing aesthetic treatments, it can quickly become a sought-after solution in the professional and premium skincare segments.”
Exosome therapy is one of the latest science-backed skincare solutions that’s taking the beauty world by storm. If you’re intrigued, here are some answers to your questions about this miraculous skincare therapy.

Exosomes are nano-sized vesicles that are released by cells to communicate with each other. “Think of them as tiny delivery trucks that carry important information, like proteins, growth factors, and genetic material, from one cell to another,” says Byong Seung-cho, “They help cells communicate and play a key role in repairing damage, reducing inflammation, and promoting healthy cell growth.”
The exosomes extracted from stem cells can help the body repair, rejuvenate and regenerate tissue. “Unlike stem cell therapy, exosome therapy doesn’t use whole cells, just their healing signal, which makes it a safer approach to recovery and regeneration,” says Dr. Madhurya Gogineni, Dermatologist at Zennara Clinics. It’s a simple procedure where the exosome-rich products are either used topically on the skin or injected into targetted areas. ExoCoBio has introduced products like gel masks and soothing balms for the same.

According to experts, there are plenty of benefits to the therapy for anyone looking for a youthful skincare boost to consider. “It repairs and regenerates skin at a cellular level, boosts collagen and elastin for rejuvenation. What sets it apart is that it’s natural, non-toxic, and has minimal downtime,” says Dr Madhurya.
CEO Byong Seung-cho believes that this therapy can be especially beneficial for Indian users, citing its anti-inflammatory properties to combat many skincare problems that ail Indian consumers. “Hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone are among the top skincare concerns for Indian consumers due to exposure to UV rays and pollution. Exosome therapy’s ability to brighten skin and repair damage will resonate well,” he says. “Its anti-inflammatory effects make it ideal for soothing sensitive skin conditions often seen in India’s varied climate.”
When it comes to aesthetic anti-ageing skincare treatments that are backed by science, names like Botox and Letybo come to mind. Is exosome therapy any different? “Exosome therapy is fundamentally different from Botox or Letybo in both how it works and the results it delivers,” says Byong Seung-cho, “Botox and Letybo use botulinum toxin to temporarily relax muscles that cause wrinkles. Exosomes are tiny messenger particles containing various proteins, growth factors, miRNAs and mRNAs to stimulate the production of collagen, elastin and other components that restore skin health. It focuses on improving skin quality over time, addressing underlying causes of aging like inflammation and cellular damage.”
It goes without saying that you need to consult your dermatologist if you’re considering opting for the therapy. These are the few things you can keep in mind while exploring the possibility of going for it.

“The effectiveness of exosome therapy depends on the quality of the exosomes used and the expertise of the practitioner,” says Byong Seung-cho. You must ensure the therapy uses clinically tested and validated products that are backed by extensive research for safety and efficacy.
While it is a remarkably effective therapy for a variety of issues, experts believe that exosome therapy is often most effective when combined with other treatments on energy-based devices like microneedling, laser therapy, or chemical peels.
Unlike some treatments that offer immediate results, exosome therapy works on a cellular level and delivers gradual improvements over time. “Be prepared to commit to multiple sessions (if recommended) to see optimal results,” says Byong Seung-cho.
While exosome therapy is a safe and minimally invasive treatment due to its natural, biocompatible components, there could be some side effects, claims Dr Madhurya. You can expect mild redness or swelling when combined with procedures like microneedling and laser devices. This usually subsides within a few hours to a day.
If you’re a bride who wants to opt for this therapy, or you want your skin radiant and supple by the time your friend/sister/brother/neighbour’s wedding rolls by, you need to be careful about when you go for it. “My advice for brides would be to start three to six months before D-Day for best results. You can plan two to three sessions, spaced four to six weeks apart,” says Dr Madhurya.
Byong Seung-cho adds, “Professionals can advise on how many sessions you’ll need and whether additional treatments are recommended. So, it’s better to schedule a consultation with a dermatologist or aesthetician six months in advance to discuss your skin goals and create a tailored treatment plan.”
