In the quest for age-defying solutions, the beauty industry constantly seeks the latest cutting-edge technologies. However, experts are turning to time-tested traditions over newer innovations, as we see with the resurgence of the Kansa wand — Ayurveda's ancient answer to the gua sha and face roller. This age-old tool is making a modern comeback, promising holistic benefits and a natural glow.

    What Is A Kansa Wand?

A Kansa wand is a dome-shaped face massage tool that stimulates blood circulation. The real magic lies in its construction from the metal Kansa, an alloy of copper and tin. Revered in Ayurvedic texts, Kansa promotes lymphatic drainage and removes built-up toxins. “It is used in Ayurveda to balance the dosha," says Dr.Madhuri Agarwal. This pH-balancing material is also popular for making utensils due to its health benefits. “Kansa wand has copper which is alkaline in nature and has antibacterial properties,” she adds.

How To Use A Kansa Wand?

“Always use the clean wand on clean skin, use it once or twice a week (not daily) and check with the expert on the right technique to do it . When the technique is not right, it can lead to side effects like skin tearing, abrasions, bruising and irritation,” says Dr. Madhuri. To use the Kansa Wand, start by applying your facial serum to ensure the wand glides smoothly over your skin. Begin at the centre of your chin, following the jawline, and massage the wand until you reach the bottom of your ear. Repeat this motion 4-5 times on each side. Next, move upwards, starting at the corner of your mouth and following the natural lines of your cheekbones, massaging upwards to the centre of your ear and repeat on both sides. End your treatment by making circular and figure-eight motions around your temples, forehead, and above the eyebrows. “While using the Kansa wand, do not overdo it, know the right technique and there is only the benefit of massage and some degree of depuffing (the tall claims are not scientifically proven),” she adds.

Incorporating the kansa wand into your skincare routine may offer numerous benefits, from improved muscle tone to a natural glow. However, consistency is key to seeing visible results. Regular use, combined with a good skincare regimen, will help maximise the wand's potential, ensuring your skin reaps the full rewards of this ancient Ayurvedic tool.
