Dramatic silhouettes, vibrant colour palette and 80s Bollywood made for Suneet Varma’s ‘Nazm’ at Hyundai India Couture Week…
The Suneet Varma showcase ‘Nazm’ on Day 2 of the Hyundai India Couture Week was everything you would expect from the couturier. The show started with a recital of a short poem by the couturier’s mother, setting up the stage for a showcase that explored femininity through luxurious fabrics and OTT silhouettes.
‘Nazm: A Symphony of Opulence and Elegance’ was the couturier’s tribute to his eternal love for romance, music, and Bollywood, made plenty clear as the models decked out in signature Suneet Varma opulence walked to the best of Bollywood’s romantic songs from the 80’s.
The collection, in the designer’s own words, dresses the woman “who knows her worth, who commands attention without demanding it”. We especially appreciate the risque blouses that paired beautifully with full lehenga.
The showcase at ICW was a spectacle. The designer, known for his unabashed opulence, once again delivered a collection that was loud, bold, and unapologetically over-the-top with intricate mirror-work that sounded on the set every time a model walked to three-dimensional appliques that added the oomph to each outfit.
Models emerged, each a walking, breathing, bejewelled masterpiece and well-choreographed. Varma’s signature heavy embellishments were on full display, with every inch of fabric seemingly covered in sequins, crystals, and intricate embroidery.
Our favourites from the show would have to be the experimental saree-hybrid and a pearly white ruffled sari.
The collection was a riot of colour and texture, with his signature soft pinks and baby blues making a comeback. Maximalist brides, are you listening?
