Over the years, fine dining has emerged as an art form. It’s no longer just about the food or the act of eating. It’s about creating an immersive experience that transports you to another world. It could be through an avant-garde take on food or through tableware that’s steeped in history. For those interested in the latter, British heritage brand Thomas Goode has opened a new flagship store in New Delhi’s Oberoi Hotel.

The bespoke luxury tableware, dinnerware and crockery brand has a legacy that spans nearly two centuries and a history of being patronised by storied royal families from around the world, including the Maharaja of Baroda and The Maharaja of Kotah.

Founded in 1827 in the heart of London’s Mayfair district, Thomas Goode became synonymous with opulence and luxury, especially after it became the go-to table-scaping brand for royalty and nobility. The company received Royal Warrants from both Queen Victoria and Prince Albert and played a significant role in the wedding of the future King Edward VII with Princess Alexandra of Denmark when they provided gifts for the royal household.

Over the years, thanks to Thomas Goode’s successor William Goode’s curious and

enterprising mind, the brand became closely associated with royalty and some of Europe’s most celebrated families. In 1922, the company was commissioned to create three miniature white porcelain dinner services for what is considered to be the ‘largest, most beautiful and most famous doll house in the world’. The doll's house was a gift for Queen Mary, the grandmother of Queen Elizabeth II. The royal association continued with the brand providing dinner service for the wedding of now-King Charles and Princess Diana in 1981.
