Whether you became aware of the concept through the wildly successful Rhonda Byrne 2006 novel The Secret or Shah Rukh Khan’s iconic dialogue from the 2007 Farah Khan directorial Om Shanti Om, manifestation has always been a part of our lives.

Manifesting, essentially, is the practice of thinking aspirational thoughts to make them real.

“Manifestation, to me, is like living your dreams in a way, shape and form that you would like to and see it translate as you go through the journey of reaching that destination,” says corporate head honcho-turned-life coach Sunil Chopra.

The man is living proof that manifestation works. After over three decades of working, and reaching stratospheric levels of success, across big companies, like Nokia, Xerox and GE, Sunil wanted something more. He had always enjoyed interacting and working with a diverse group of people, his different positions over the years allowing him to come across people from all walks of life. He tells us that working with people has always been his biggest dream and he managed to manifest this dream into reality with the newly-released platform Your Win Coach.

As he describes it, Your Win Coach is a channel which can help you manifest your win or as he puts it, “Unique, simple and practical ways to win every day!” His years of learning and experience working alongside different people have allowed him to form a unique perspective on life and how we can mould it to our wishes by only making a few changes in our lives.

The life coach gives us a sneak peek of what we can expect from the Your Win Coach platform by sharing some of his best-kept secrets about the art of manifestation…

5 tools to manifest your best life in 2024

    Discover the wow of now

Sunil’s first advice for anyone looking to manifest their desires into reality is not to wait for the elusive ‘right time’. That moment is now. He cautions against procrastination or waiting to get it perfectly right before venturing out on your journey towards your desires. “Start small, but start now,” he says, “Do not make the mistake of not making a mistake. That is the biggest mistake!” This, according to him, is the most important way to crack the code for manifestation.

    Travel light

When Sunil says it’s important to travel light, he is not referring to the never-ending tussle between the flight luggage allowance and the need to pack 10 outfit options for just a one-day trip. “Do not carry forward any regrets or emotional losses from the books of last year.” Life, he says, is not a balance sheet where you can carry forward losses or base your behaviour on future projections. “This is my time to manifest what I want. I will live in this year, and I'll give it everything.”

    Celebrate every win

The key to manifesting your desires? A steady rush of dopamine, says Sunil. “What happens is that we decide to peg ourselves to the big goal and then forget to celebrate the milestones in between at all. We miss that completely.” One of the most important things to remember in your manifesting journey is to celebrate small wins. Sunil invites you to look at a cricket match for instance. “Anytime a player takes a wicket, they cheer. They don’t know whether they’re going to win the whole match or not but they still celebrate every small win in the journey towards the big goal.”

    Power of habit streaks

How many of us are guilty of setting well-intentioned resolutions for ourselves at the beginning of each year but giving up on them even before the calendar turns a page? If you find yourself nodding along to this, you need to pay close attention to the fourth tool at your disposal. “Maintaining a streak can be a game changer,” says Sunil, “On average, it takes about 66 days for a habit to form. But there’s a trick to ensure you stick to a task for that amount of time and end up turning it into a habit.” According to the life coach, the trick is to set small goals for yourself. If you set yourself up to complete the goal for a shorter amount of time, say a week, it will be easier for you to complete it again for another week following that. Soon you’ll find yourself becoming used to the task and doing it to not break your weekly streak. “It will likely become a habit and you can celebrate this win too!”

Make deposits in the bank of emotions

The last, but perhaps the most important, tool is to keep a healthy balance in the bank account of emotions. “Each one of us carries a live emotional bank in our subconscious,” says Sunil. In our daily hustle and bustle, we forget to make deposits in the accounts of people who matter and who we care about. Sometimes we also let our balance be drawn to the limit by people who might not have our best interests in their hearts. Sunil advises you to keep a check on this important bank account and continually make deposits in the accounts of your loved ones by checking in or letting them know you’re there for them. These bonds will help you create a support system that will never fail you in the future.

For Manifest to become one of Cambridge Dictionary's most viewed words of 2024 — 1,30,000 hits and counting — it means some of us must have Googled it at least once. I know, I hit that search button over and over again
because each time I looked at it, I saw a new meaning.

Putting together a homegrown title at a time when the demise of print has been long announced may seem surprising...
...but it has long been a dream of mine to give India a magazine it deserves. A magazine that is the country.

And nothing, absolutely nothing, represents India more than our weddings. It is a time when families are brought together. Traditions come alive as they are adapted to each couple's beliefs. And lives are joined in a way that the romantic in me still enjoys.
