The Internet of today is divided into two camps: Those who know what is it to be 'demure and mindful' and those who are not terminally online. If you belong to the latter team, here's a quick refresher. Lately, a TikTok has gone viral with a voice-over that is being used as the audio for many videos across social media platforms, and it goes something like this; “You see how I do my makeup for work? Very demure. Very mindful. I don't come to work with a green-cut crease. I don't look like a clown when I go to work. I don't do too much. I'm very mindful while I'm at work. Do you see how I look very presentable?" A rant by beauty influencer Jools Lebron that first went viral on TikTok and then on other platforms such as Instagram is now being used for Instagram videos to emphasise the idea of being demure.

The word is defined as being modest, reserved and shy,  but the internet’s definition of demure is more about being mindful and considerate of one’s surroundings, while also maintaining a sense of subtlety. Just a couple of months back, being a ‘brat girl,’ and having a ‘brat girl summer’ became a way of life, it seems to be ‘very demure, very mindful’ is on its way to becoming the next big aesthetic and favourite way of being/living.

And, all this talk of being demure has us thinking, who would we not mind being a little more subtle and considerate? Well for one, difficult wedding guests! Some wedding guests need gentle reminders on how to be more demure and mindful for sure! This is why we’ve curated a guide on how to be a demure, and mindful wedding guest. You're welcome...

How To Be A ‘Very Demure, Very Mindful’ Wedding Guest

    1) By not showing up to the wedding with the bride/groom's ex as your date.

    2) By not side-eyeing the bride’s outfit and makeup choices.

    3) By deciding not to roll your eyes at someone for asking you for the hundredth time when you're getting married.

    Very demure, very mindful

    4) By not having a mini meltdown for not discovering the good gol-gappas at the wedding (because you know there's a good kind).

    5) By refraining from giving it back to that cousin who always has to make it a competition with who's dressed better.

    6) By not turning into a five-year-old yourself while an actual five-year-old demands you let them share your gulab jamun.

    7) By being fully aware of the fact that you're not going to find the love of your life at this particular wedding. (Yet still secretly harbouring some classic Bollywood-esque finding love amid a wedding fantasy).

    8) By not being perturbed when a relative tells you to straighten your curly hair because it looks more tamed and put together that way.

    9) By not letting the ghost of a particularly energetic Farah Khan enter your body when you hear the opening strains of 'Chaiyan Chaiyan' on the dance floor.

As the trend takes off, and we struggle to get ‘Very demure, very mindful’ out of our heads, let’s thank Jools for giving us this catchy rant!
