When it comes to weddings, gifting is an essential part of the entire event. Whether that’s considering gifts to give to the happy couple or wedding favours for the guests gracing your wedding. From food options to expensive items and sterling silver trinkets, Indian weddings are flagbearers of lavish wedding gifting options (they don’t call it a ‘Big Fat Indian wedding’ for nothing).

    What Are Wedding Favours?

Wedding favours are small gifts given by the couple to their guests as a token of gratitude for attending the special moment. Only recently, we’ve seen an excellent example of how luxurious wedding gifts can be. The Ambanis invited guests to Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s wedding with a silver mandir which contained gold idols of Radha Krishna and Lord Ganesha along with a silver box which held the wedding invitation, as well as sweets, dry fruits, and a handwritten note by Nita and Mukesh Ambani.

Aside from this, back in 2015, the world witnessed one of the biggest weddings to have taken place between Chinese entertainment power couple Huang Xiaoming and Angela Yeung Wing. Not only was Angela’s ring worth a whopping USD 1.5 million. The couple allegedly gave out intricate gift bags to their wedding guests that included cell phones (among other things).

So it seems, no level of extravagance can be left untouched when it comes to gifting etiquette in weddings. “Frommithais, we have now started exchanging more stylised return gifts. These include gold/ silver coins, large hampers with flavoured dry fruits, mukhwas, photo frames etc. In this day and age of sustainability, plants, and seed paper stationary are gaining popularity. One of the most interesting wedding favours I have come across recently was a couple of watches and stationery. Another was a couple of brass glasses engraved with the initials of the recipient (an intrinsic task), and evil eye beads,” Akshay Gupta, a hospitality professional tells us. Aside from this, it seems customised, bespoke and personalised gifts are gaining popularity in terms of wedding favours. “It was a cold, January evening and we were watching the sangeet ceremony, my aunt gave out these really nice hand-woven throws that people can sit with at the sangeet. It was made with really nice colours and natural, organic dyes,” says Arushi Agrawal, an Account Executive with The Communication Council who works with brands such as The Face Shop, Belif India and Newby Teas.

So, we’ve curated some unique wedding favour ideas based on expert advice for you to consider, if you too are planning on putting together a goodie bag for your loved ones.

    Cold-pressed, organic oils and ingredients

Food is such an integral part of our culture and heritage, and giving people the gift of clean, organic food is an eternal one. So, if you know your guests would appreciate something like this, you can consider sharing organic ghee or mustard oil or even well sourced saffron with your guests.

    Engraved brass essentials

Sure, ceramic tableware is a classic, but if you want to go for something more traditional, you can opt for brass dinnerware or essentials, and get it engraved with the person’s, or family’s name. Something one can never get tired of using.

    Customised fragrances

If you’re considering having an intimate wedding, getting fragrances customised for your guests can be an imaginable wedding favours option. You can even ask your guests to engage in a fun (but discreet) online survey to know their preferences better.

    Ayurvedic beauty tools

As we know, A-beauty is the future of beauty. So, you can consider adding a kansa wand, or a neem wood scalp massager/comb to your guests’ goodie bags to give them the gift of wellness and relaxation.

    Potted plants

One thing we all need right now is more plants, and more eco-friendly gifting options. This is why you can think about giving out fragrant potted plants that symbolise something very special to you or your guests.
