Can I Get One Aman Mathur With A Side Of Rocky Randhawa Please?

Ever wondered how your favourite onscreen heroes would fare as IRL husbands? We did the hard work so you don’t have to…

Jan 31, 2025

We might pretend to be above getting butterflies in our stomachs whenever we see a cliched romance movie (we’re talking tears, airport chases, grand declarations of love…the works), but the truth is very different. Whether it is Jai and Aditi (from Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na) finding their way to each other after going through several hurdles or Aman sacrificing his chance at one true love to make sure Naina finds her happiness with Rohit (from Kal Ho Naa Ho), Bollywood movies have captured the essence of love in different forms. Not to forget that they’ve also given us several romantic heroes to crush on.

But real-world experiences with dating have given us glaring signs that it’s not all rainbows and chaste kisses in the rain. These ideal characters might seem perfect on paper (or reel) but could be a whole different breed once the credits roll. So we decided to put our fanciest thinking caps on and figure out just how these romantic main leads would fare as husbands in real life because why not?

Bollywood romantic heroes Vs IRL relationship issues

Aman Mathur from Kal Ho Naa Ho

Before you say anything, we acknowledge that technically Aman dies and would never actually get married to anyone but since our version of Kal Ho Naa Ho ends with the song ‘Maahi Ve’ where Aman gets to live and dance with his loved ones and you can argue with the wall. Would it be easy being married to Aman? On most days, yes. The guy will be loyal, unflinchingly supportive, would know how to keep things light when times get hard and would not be afraid to be honest with you. But his (well-intentioned) need to fix problems for others, without being asked, could prove to be a problem but it wouldn’t be a deal breaker!

Rocky Randhawa from Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani

Rocky Randhawa entered Rani’s (and our) hearts in all his muscled, Versace-loving, broken English-speaking glory and never left. Both Rani and Rocky had to unlearn several things they believed to stumble their way to the elusive ‘Happy Ever After’ and it’s all but canon that the two would remain as loved up as they were at the end of the movie for the rest of their lives. They would, most definitely, be living in their own house and not move in with either of the family post their wedding. Rocky would be a loud Wife Guy. He would be his no-nonsense, fearless journalist wife’s biggest cheerleader and would waste no time or expense in letting the world know that he has won at life. He would also serve as the perfect foil to Rani’s overthinking ways and would keep things balanced in the Randhawa-Chatterjee household.

Aditya Kashyap from Jab We Met

Imtiaz Ali might have given us the template of the manic pixie dream girl in Bollywood with Geet but he also gave us the Fond Boyfriend ™ in Aditya Kashyap who we don’t talk about as often as we should. The Fond Boyfriend ™, or husband in this case, is content to sit back and stare fondly at his partner as they create chaos around them without a single thought in their pretty head. Aditya Kashyap would let Geet take centre stage in their lives and would be there on the sidelines to provide a grounding presence for her when she wants to take five. He might not be the best at processing his feelings without helpful nudges from his wife but who doesn’t have faults?

Bunny from Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani

One of the most divisive characters from one of the most divisive movies in recent times, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’s Bunny realised that what he had been looking for around the world was under his nose all along. Let’s be real. Bunny is selfish, messy, lost, and afraid to confront his emotions. Naina, on the other hand, is grounded, focused, independent and (seems to be) in touch with her emotions. Since love is blind, Naina takes Bunny back without any question but would that translate into a happy future for them together? Being married to Bunny could be rough, Would he run away to a new country at the first sign of trouble in their marriage? Or would he have the courage to stay and fight for once? The eternal optimist in us wants to believe the latter but it’s more likely that Naina realises she can do much better than him and moves on (hello, Rana Daggubati!).

Jai Singh Rathore from Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na

It should be clear from how much effort Jai put into cheering up Aditi when her cat died that he would be a stand-up husband. He is unafraid to show emotions, wouldn’t shirk responsibilities, and would most certainly be the one to initiate conversations after any fight. His dysfunctional family would only add spice to the rest of their lives. Jai Rathore is the greenest flag in Bollywood history and Aditi would have a loving and supportive partner for the rest of her life. That’s all.

Arjun from Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

Arjun’s big epiphany made him realise that there’s more to life than spreadsheets and the stock market and also found him his partner for life in YOLO-enthusiast Laila. Their holiday romance might have made its way to a gorgeous wedding ceremony but does it mean that his ambitious side has been retired forever? What happens when Laila and Arjun make their way back to his gorgeous but sterile apartment in London (we have to believe that Laila’s influence made him get a home makeover if not a new apartment)? Arjun, as a husband, would be loyal and, to be fair, easily impressed by Tumblr-level life philosophies. But he would also hold grudges and could easily fall back on old ways at the first sign of trouble. The guy clearly has his priorities sorted in his head (work>>>>) and didn’t think twice before cancelling a trip for his girlfriend’s birthday without even consulting her. Arjun might have an uphill battle on his hands to put Laila on the top of his priority list and not Yamamoto San.
