Did Katy Perry Just Make Her Relationship with Justin Trudeau Official? Her Tokyo Post Says Yes.
The softest hard launch the internet has seen all year.
Katy Perry has finally confirmed what months of speculation were already pointing toward, posting a warm, close-up Tokyo selfie with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and a quiet little video of the two sharing sushi on her latest Instagram carousel. The caption said, “Tokyo Times on tour and more.”
It comes just days after their first diplomatic date as a couple, when they met Fumio Kishida, Japan's former prime minister, and his wife, Yuko, for lunch. Justin posted first during the visit, in a post by Kishida on X, he called Katy Trudeau’s partner.
"Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau visited Japan with his partner and joined my wife and me for lunch. During his time as prime minister, we met multiple times as fellow leaders, and when I visited Canada, we worked together to strengthen bilateral relations, including formulating the "Japan-Canada Action Plan," sweating it out side by side. I am delighted that we continue to maintain this friendship in this way," he wrote.
The internet responded the way it always does when a long-brewing rumour finally snaps into focus, with fans shouting “OH CANADA!!! MAKING IT OFFICIAL!!!” and others simply offering their happiness for hers.
The reaction felt instant and strangely collective, almost as if everyone had been waiting for permission to acknowledge what had been playing out in sightings for months.
The post featured a selfie of the couple posing cheek-to-cheek and a video of them eating sushi at a restaurant. Perry is now touring across the country as part of her Lifetimes tour.
Those sightings stretch back to July when Perry and Trudeau were seen having dinner in Montreal, followed by his enthusiastic singalong to Firework at her concert two nights later, which only fed the speculation.
In October, this year, the pair were photographed holding hands in Paris after a cabaret show celebrating Perry’s forty-first birthday.
