While grand gestures and big productions have their place in romance, there’s something to be said about small yet meaningful acts of love. Take, for instance, the story behind Lady Gaga and Michael Polansky’s engagement.

If you recall, the pop star inadvertently announced her engagement back when she performed at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. In a video shared by the then-prime minister of France, Gabriel Attal, Lady Gaga could be seen introducing Michael as her fiancé, a fact that didn’t go unmissed by her fans.

The singer debuted her engagement ring in April 2024, flaunting an oval-cut diamond that’s approximately eight carats. However, that wasn’t the ring used by her fiancé to propose.

In a recent interview with E! News, Lady Gaga opened up about how Michael Polansky used a blade of grass to pop the question.

“He said to me, ‘If I ever proposed to you, how do I do that?’” said Lady Gaga, “And I said, ‘Just get a blade of grass from the backyard and wrap it around my finger.’ And he did. He did that when he proposed.” While he did replace the blade of grass with a classic engagement ring, Gaga keeps wearing a green ring to pay homage to that blade of grass.

The romantic proposal story served as an inspiration for a track on Lady Gaga's newest album 'Mayhem'Spotify

The special blade of grass even earned a place on the tracklist of Lady Gaga’s newest music album Mayhem. The track ‘Blade of Grass’ has been inspired by the story of the proposal and even has Michael Polansky as a co-writer.

“I started to think about everything I've been through up until that moment,” she said in the interview. “So, the song is actually kind of haunting. I'll never forget when we were writing the bridge, I said, ‘I'll give you something, but it's no diamond ring.’ And he said, ‘The air that I'm breathing.’”

Love is well and truly alive!
