Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have a special tip on keeping their relationship's spark aliveInstagram/Meghan Markle

Meghan Markle’s home-making tips from her Netflix show, With Love, Meghan, might not have passed muster, but her take on keeping the spark alive in relationships is gold.

The Duchess of Sussex claims prioritising connection as a couple is more important than anything else in a relationship, especially a long-term one.

On her recent appearance at The Drew Barrymore Show, Meghan opened up about a piece of relationship advice she had received in the past from a dad whose child she used to babysit. According to her, he said, “Meghan, when you meet your person one day, I want him to say to you the same thing I said to my wife when we got married, which is, ‘I vow to always date my wife.'”

Meghan revealed that she relayed this advice to Prince Harry and he repeated the vow to her when they began dating.

“We have this connection, I think, because we’re so committed to treating each other the same way you did before you had a ring on it, before it was locked down,” said Meghan, “When you’re just courting each other and you can see all the good and joy in that butterfly period – that’s I think what keeps things really alive.”

Couples in long-term relationships often tend to put their connection on the back burner as other factors, like day-to-day routines, children, family etc, come into play. “When intimacy fades in a relationship and when people start living as roommates, and they're okay with it, that’s a problem,” says relationship coach Vidya Dakshinamoorthy.

In an interview with People magazine, Meghan spoke about how the couple managed to carve out time to spend together everyday despite their busy schedule. One thing that has helped her and Prince Harry maintain this practice is their ritual of ‘nightcap recaps’.

The former actress stated that at every night, they unwind with a drink and debrief about their day while preparing lunch boxes for their kids.

“I imagine that it’s the same as it would be for any couple,” she said, “You have your individual jobs, but then you have things that you share together.”

    Couples, are you taking notes?

because each time I looked at it, I saw a new meaning.

Putting together a homegrown title at a time when the demise of print has been long announced may seem surprising...
...but it has long been a dream of mine to give India a magazine it deserves. A magazine that is the country.
