If reports are to be believed, we’re going to witness another celebrity engagement very soon. Tamannaah Bhatia and Vijay Varma, who have been dating since 2022, might soon become a part of the club of actors who were paired together onscreen before getting married IRL.

The couple met on the sets of Netflix’s anthology film Lust Stories 2 (2023) and began dating soon after. While they had not addressed the rumours of their relationship at the start, the two opened up about it because they didn’t want to hide their love. In an interview with Mashable India, Vijay Varma said, “Our relationship is very strong and lovely. We both enjoy the public attention.”

Speaking of how it all started, the actor revealed, “We crossed paths simultaneously, which I find very interesting.” Much before the two met on the sets of their movie, Vijay Verma had moved to Mumbai from Hyderabad at the same time that Tamannaah had moved from Mumbai to Hyderabad.

While the couple met and started dating after wrapping up Lust Stories 2 in 2022 (“20-25 days after the shoot,” says Vijay), the public didn’t get wind of their relationship until they were spotted kissing at a New Year’s Eve party in Goa.

In January 2023, the couple was spotted together by paparazzi in Bandra, Mumbai, but they continued to deny their involvement with each other.

On Valentine’s Day that year, Vijay shared a picture of two sets of feet facing each other on his Instagram Stories. While he didn’t tag Tamannaah in the photo, the rumours circulating about the two of them were enough to send their fans into a tizzy.

In March 2023, Tamannaah denied reports of their relationship in an interview. She claimed that they’ve only done a movie together. Despite their continued denial, the two were spotted together on dates around town.

Finally, in June 2023, Tamannaah admitted in an interview with Film Companion that she was dating Vijay Varma. “He is someone I really look up to. He is someone with whom I bonded very, very organically. With high-achieving women, we have this problem, that we think we have to work hard for everything. When something is so simple you don’t have to walk on eggshells to just be yourself because I think in India we also have this that a woman has to change her entire life for someone… He’s a person who I care about deeply and yeah, he’s my happy place,” she said.

Post the admission, the couple began to be seen more openly together. From date nights to public events like movie screenings, the two were photographed together many times.

In November 2023, they walked the ramp for designers Abraham and Thakore at the opening ceremony of Jio World Plaza.

Since then, the two have acted as each other’s cheerleaders and have made us yearn for another movie with them together, preferably a delightful rom-com (are you listening, Netflix overlords?!)
