The Complete Timeline of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Relationship

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s journey has been centre stage for the last two years and has garnered widespread attention from fans from its very inception as the Swifties kept a close watch on it, awaiting the day the couple took the next step in their relationship, and finally, the day has arrived. On Tuesday, the couple took to Instagram to announce their engagement, and Swifties have not been calm ever since.

Taylor Swift, the record-breaking global pop icon and Travis Kelce, the Kansas City Chiefs star, have spent nearly two years together blending music and sports into a modern fairytale in the true sense. Keeping Swifties and the NFL fans hooked, their chemistry has been undeniable, with Taylor cheering for Travis at games and Travis flying across the world to see her perform, and even the two holding hands on the red carpet and at other public appearances. 

What started with a whimsical plan involving a friendship bracelet has come to be the most talked-about romance of pop culture.

And now, with their garden proposal that has the internet swooning, the duo has begun the most romantic chapter in their life. But where did it all begin?

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Relationship Timeline

It started in July 2023, at Taylor’s Eras Tour stop at Arrowhead Stadium, when the NFL star attended the tour and tried and failed to slip her a friendship bracelet with his number on it. He had revealed on his New Heights podcast, later, that he had crafted the bracelet with his phone number on it, but couldn’t give it to her because of Taylor’s strict no-meet policy-Taylor doesn’t meet people before or after shows. He had joked that he was “butt hurt” because she did not get it

While for most, it seemed like Kelce missed the opportunity, a source later claimed that the pair had been hanging out together. They told The Messenger that the couple had hung out when the pop star was in New York, after which a source had told Entertainment Tonight that the two were not officially dating. “Travis has been into Taylor for a while and definitely has a crush on her. He is a simple guy who is very funny, charismatic, chill, and loves playing football,” they had said.

As the rumours began to circulate about the two, Kelce’s brother, Jason, was asked about it by Prime’s Thursday Night Football co-host Tony Gonzalez after the Eagles’ win against the Minnesota Vikings on September 14th, but Jason refused to comment on them. “I don’t really know what’s going on there,” he had said. “I know Travis is having fun, we’ll see what happens with whoever he ends up with.”

Later in September 2023, Travis took to publicly inviting Taylor to games. On September 24, Taylor surprised Kansas City and her fans by showing up at Arrowhead to watch him play the Chicago Bears, where she also sat beside his mother, Donna. 

Days later, Travis called Taylor's move “ballsy” on his podcast as his brother joked that the rumours about the two were 100 per cent true.

Their appearances at each other’s games and shows had gradually made the relationship undeniable, and in October, the two made surprise cameos on Saturday Night Live. They were later caught walking hand-in-hand to the afterparty, which was soon followed by a photo of Taylor kissing Travis on the cheek, confirming the news. 

By the latter part of the year, the two were reported to be exchanging cross-continent visits. By November, Kelce was flying to Argentina to see Taylor perform, while she was reportedly changing a lyric in "Karma" to give him a shout-out mid-show. In December, she had disclosed to Time that their story actually began when “Travis very adorably put me on blast on his podcast.”

By early 2024, Taylor had become a staple at Chiefs games. In January, she braved the frigid temperatures in Orchard Park to watch the NFL star play the Buffalo Bills, spending time with his family, huddled in a luxe suite. And by February’s Super Bowl, she was spotted celebrating Kansas City’s victory alongside Blake Lively, Ice Spice and the Kelces.

As the summer of 2024 set in, their romance also set in full bloom as Travis joined Taylor on stage at Wembley Stadium for a playful skit. He lifted her in front of all her fans and later confessed on his podcast, “The one thing I told myself-don’t drop Taylor.” 

Through playoff games and the surprise stage bits, their relationship developed into a pattern, and their bond only grew stronger. They spent holidays together, supported each other at shows through 2024 and into 2025. In June 2025, the couple made their red-carpet debut at Kelce’s Tight End University event in Nashville. Taylor also joined Travis on stage for a surprise performance of ‘Shake It Off’.

And finally, on August 26, 2025, the couple began their new journey when Travis popped the question to the global pop icon in a lush, rose-filled garden. The couple made the engagement official with an Instagram post with the most wholesome and (very) relatable caption, “Your English teacher and your gym teachers are getting married.” The couple shared photos that captured them laughing and embracing post the proposal, while also showing off Taylor’s old mine-cut diamond engagement ring.
