Minimoon Guide for December

Where to go:

Escape to Colombia for the ultimate minimoon adventure, where vibrant culture, stunning landscapes, and romance await Instagram/ Colombia travelers

Few places in the world have moved me the way Colombia has. When I first visited in 2018, it wasn’t under the most picturesque circumstances. I was burnt out, and craving a moment to pause. But Colombia? Colombia gave me everything I needed and more. It was healing, inspiring, and deeply romantic. Here’s my advised itinerary: land in Bogotá and spend three nights here. Then head on to Cartagena for three nights, take a boat to Las Islas for two nights, and finish up with Medellin for two nights.

Where to stay:

Hotel Charleston Santa Teresa in Cartagena

Every archway whispers history, and every corridor glows with colonial charm. Once a 17th-century convent, the property has been lovingly restored into one of Cartagena’s most iconic luxury hotels. Original stone walls, grand staircases, and stained-glass windows are paired with plush linens, impeccable service, and a rooftop pool that serves up views of Cartagena’s walled city and shimmering coastline. One evening, we stumbled upon a rum tasting session, where a local expert walked us through the intricacies of Colombian distillation — educational, yes, but also romantic in the setting sun.

Just an hour outside Cartagena lies Hotel Las Islas, a secluded paradise on the Rosario Islands that defines eco-luxury with a Colombian soul. The bungalows here are works of art. Ours was perched over the ocean, where we could sip morning coffee with pelicans flying past and dip straight into the sea from our deck. The library room was straight from Jurassic Park — breathtaking and surreal.

What to eat:

Colombian cuisine is soulful, surprising, and beautifully layered. From cocktails by the sea in Cartagena to open-fire cuisine in Bogotá, the food here is meant to be enjoyed by couples.

Lobo del Mar, Cartagena

I still dream about their truffle ravioli — a dish so good we immediately ordered it again! Breezy and relaxed, this waterfront spot serves up fresh fish, beachy cocktails, and sea views.

Juan del Mar, Cartagena

Get ready for a flavor fiesta at Juan del Mar! Zingy ceviches, salsa dancing, and live music in a vibrant ancient squareInstagram/ Juan del Mar

Set in a music-filled ancient square, it offers a vibrant, open-air experience full of local flavour. Expect zingy ceviches with a side of salsa dancing.

Primi, Bogotá

Andrés Carnes De Res, Bogotá

Andrés Carnes De Res: a 7km party paradise! Dancing, food, music, and spectacle collide in this wild, unforgettable night outInstagram/ Andres Carnes De Res, Bogota

A wild, 7 km-long sensory playground where food, music, and spectacle collide. Founded in 1982 as a roadside grill, it’s now a party destination just outside Bogotá, with five dance floors, a coal-fired kitchen the size of a jet, roving performers, hammocks, hangover soup stations, and more. Whether you’re dancing under confetti or sipping cocktails in a hammock, Andrés is Colombia’s most unforgettable night out.

What to do:

Escape to paradise: hike through Tayrona's lush jungles, relax in eco-luxury hammocks, or soak up Bogotá's views from Monserrate HillInstagram/ Tayrona National Park

Tayrona National Park, Magdalena

Hike through lush jungle trails, discover hidden beaches like Cabo San Juan, and spend the night in an eco-luxury hammock hut or beachside cabin. Perfect for nature-loving couples looking for both adventure and serenity.

Isla La Matamba, Las Islas

We had the pleasure of going to the house of famous chef Juan del Mar in Las Islas and spent the whole day in paradise. Blue waters, fresh food, and sunkissed decks. Their hospitality was incomparable and the raw beauty of the island is unmissable.

Monserrate Hill, Bogotá

Take the cable car or hike up to Bogotá’s most iconic viewpoint. Enjoy panoramic views, the whitewashed sanctuary, and a romantic lunch with the city at your feet.

Graffiti Tour, Bogotá

You can take a guided walk through Bogotá’s historic district filled with street art. We opted to figure it out with Google Maps, and it was equally enjoyable!
