Minimoon Guide for March and April
Where to go:
With a mix of ancient wonders, vibrant cities, scorching-hot deserts, and tranquil beaches, Egypt is a must-visit for couples who want to blend culture, adventure, and romance. I highly recommend booking with a travel company — it’s worth it for peace of mind. Each region in Egypt offers something unique.
For a scenic alternative to flying between cities, consider a road trip. Start in Cairo, a must-visit to see the pyramids, and then head to Hurghada for a laid-back beach vibe. From there, you can drive to Luxor, at the ancient heart of Egypt.
This journey lets you see a different side of Egypt, including its views of the countryside, small towns, and local life. In case you have a little extra time or are feeling more adventurous, make a stop to see the desert oases and canyons.
Where to stay:
Sofitel Winter Palace, Luxor
Built in 1886 and once frequented by royalty, this hotel feels like a time capsule. Our room overlooked the Nile and the lush gardens, and the interiors reflected the history of the hotel, with antique furniture, high ceilings, and French regency touches. You can spend your afternoons by the pool with a cocktail, shaded by towering palms as the water reflects the golden sun.
Mazeej Balad, Cairo
Nestled in the chaotic charm of downtown Cairo, this is where old-world soul meets quiet luxury. I stayed in one of their artfully designed suites, each layered with textures and stories that reflected Cairo’s multifaceted spirit. Mornings started with Egyptian coffee and flaky feteer on the rooftop, with a panoramic view of the city’s pulse below.
Four Seasons Resort, Sharm El Sheikh
An absolute standout, this hotel offers panoramic views of the Red Sea that you’ll carry in your camera roll and your heart. I loved their world-class experiences, which included guided stargazing desert safaris, Bedouin dinners, and a private day trip to Mount Sinai.
Casa Cook El Gouna, Hurghada
This bohemian-chic escape, with a private beach and live DJ sets, is located between desert dunes and turquoise lagoons. It’s designed for those who love barefoot luxury, offering the freedom to dive headfirst into a new adventure.
What to eat:
From dining by the Nile or above the city skyline, Cairo’s top restaurants blend Mediterranean and Egyptian influences in creative ways.
Khufu’s
Set almost in the shadow of the Great Pyramid itself, Khufu’s menu features local ingredients and flavours with modern Mediterranean techniques, making each dish feel like a contemporary ode to history.
Pier88
Italian dining with an Egyptian twist. Set along the Nile, you’ll find hors d’oeuvres, pizzas, and innovative cocktails in a buzzing atmosphere.
Crimson
This rooftop bar in Zamalek boasts panoramic views of the sunset, enhanced by their delicious drinks. Their menu leans Mediterranean with a fresh, contemporary edge. I highly recommend their watermelon and pineapple cocktails — they are addictive!
What to do:
You can’t go wrong with the classics. The hot air balloon ride in Luxor is one of the most magical things I’ve ever done. You’ll get a birds-eye view of centuries of history, something you just can’t appreciate from the ground. The historic sites tour, Abu Simbel excursion, where temples are carved into the mountains in Luxor; desert oases and canyons in Sharm el-Sheikh; pyramids of Giza and Saqqara; and museums in Cairo together bring to the fore the majesty of history, nature, and enduring acts of creation.
Where to shop:
From bustling souks to boutique ateliers, the country’s fashion scene is alive with purpose and heritage. Two standout accessories brands are Double A and Okhtein, both led by Egyptian sister duos and brought to India by AiSPi.
Okhtein
Founded by Mounaz and Aya Abdelraouf, it is known for bold, innovative handbags that are enhanced by their intricate embossed details.
Double A
